I bought a 2011 Toyota Prius and it showed no issues on the test drive. The engine is knocking between 20-26 km the slower I’m accelerating the more it rattles. Today when reversing the vehicle out of the garage white was thick and plentiful for about 10 seconds. This is actually my first vehicle and is somewhat frustrating. The Prius is at 282,000 km, was just safety certified in Toronto Canada. Am looking for looking for advice for what to do? I got an extended warranty through Lubrico and they have great reviews, going to call them tomorrow but have a strange feeling it will not be covered or they will repair the wrong thing. They say both the don’t cover overheating engines and that with will repair blown gaskets(which I thought happened because the engine overheated). Anyone do diy repairs in the gta area(head gasket repair, egr and manifold cleaning, etc) that I could pay if the warranty isn’t going to cover the repair? Thank you and take care,
Did you mean you had lots of smoke when you backed out? Did it smell like burning oil or burning coolant? Any error codes or warning lights?
It likely didn't overheat. The head gasket does blow, for several different reasons that no one has really pinpointed. So it should be covered.
That’s roughly 175k miles. Any 3rd Gen for sale with those miles is almost guaranteed to have a failing head gasket, possibly masked by a stop-leak product in the engine coolant. of the several different reasons, my moneys on the EGR system Toyota introduced with Gen 3, and it’s propensity to clog up with carbon.
White smoke is late stage hg (90%), severely burning oil because of the cat (1%) or a rare gen3 coolant leak into the exhaust heat recirculation system (2%). Typically the engine is off in reverse unless the engine is cold. First thing I would do is show up at the sellers business.
336,500 miles on mine.... Original motor and hybrid battery and brake parts. Yea, what a piece of junk...
Yes I agree! If so great why so many people on here and other sites. Total JUNK....... My Previa, Camry and Matrix 10 times better vehicles. Previa 460,000 Carry 360,000 Matrix. 245,000 And No blown headgasket No brake work except pads No blown Inverter And No costly traction battery.
No one is forcing you to buy a Prius. No one is forcing you to keep it. If you were so happy with the other vehicles, WHY did you buy a Prius?
Because I thought it would be a good car for high mpg....(drive 1000 miles a week) and had such great service out of my other toyotas.... Only thig good about the car is mpg...... then you loose all the money you saved on super high repair bills... and the car can let you down anytime anywhere......
For the typical owner, the 3rd gen Prius will implode, by 200k at the latest. Toyota screwed the pooch with third gen's EGR system, and is keeping as quiet as possible on the topic. As an ex-mechanic, keeping up to date on PriusChat, @ASRDogman is not a typical owner.
Is that Wing one that is prone to frame cracking, early ADG failure, overheating and blowing left side fork seals?
