Mexican families can have been citizens of the USA longer than a European descent family. Yet when they walk into the street they are often profiled as invaders, while this never happens to a European descent person. There was a man where I worked who was born in Fresno, as were his parents. He would be like 100 years old now. He was profiled like nobody’s business as a “Mexican.” Funny, when you are of European descent, people seem to think you are on their side when they berate other skin tones or nations of origin. So I have heard it all. They are profiling you too.

    Oh....
Being one of those unwashed people in flyover country who don't understand how awesome the economy really is, I read the graph as representing the UNEMPLOYMENT rate year over year.
April 2023 to April 2024 is interesting...... ;)
    BUT!!!
I think I understand your thinking on this......
RED is a good color for those bullet points!
If you keep telling yourself that this' encumbency' and this 'strong' economy are value-ADDs for Team Donkey then you're probably ALSO gullible enough to also believe that P45 is going to prison.....

Why not just check the good poll numbers box too??? ;)
I wonder why they call them 'cartoons?' :D

Says anyone with a crayon-eater's understanding of US History.

    A 'few' Examples:
Post Civil War German-American riots of (name any large city)
Italian immigrants in any large East Coast City.
"No Irish Need Apply" signs - post-spud blight
(WHY do you think they still call them Patty-wagons? - 2 reasons ACTUALLY apply!!!)

In the mid 1800s two things were true that are not necessarily true today:
We had a surfeit of recent Irish immigrants and police were held in very VERY low regard - lower even than they are in some 'defund' places. This meant that the Irish were over-represented by persons riding both in the front and in the rear of 'Paddy Wagons.'
"Paddy" is a nickname for an Irishman or someone of Irish descent, and is derived from the Irish name Pádraig, which is also the name of Ireland's patron saint, Patrick.
Only people who were in economic distress and possessed fighting skills would have been a police officer in the mid 1800s.

As cities grew the large ones such as Paris and London began professionalizing their police and this made its way - all too slowly, to the new world.

It is indeed frightening that 'grown ups" know so little about history but post so confidently as in post 22:

Louisville’s ‘Bloody Monday’ is still remembered and marked (irishecho.com)

"Nativist mobs spent the day storming through a number of immigrant neighborhoods, for the most part inhabited by Irish and German Catholics.

In the riots, at least 22 people were killed and dozens injured.

Some estimates of the death toll went far higher.

Rioters, determined to stop the new immigrant voters, rolled cannons up to the doors of one church, searched the Cathedral of the Assumption and St. Patrick’s Church for arms, and burned a row of buildings known as Quinn’s Row."

    I WOULD say:
"I'll bring the popcorn and some.....ah.....Kerrygold butter....."
But alas, some of us will be working the polls probably all day on the 5th and again on the 6th.

I will offer deepest condolences for the losers, probably on the 7th.
....(my preferred candidate - "None of the Above" will almost certainly not win!)

I took post 22 to be referring to the current times as he was speaking of a man they personally knew. Those of European descent covers people whose families were here long enough to assimilate. Not the first and second generation Irish, Italians, and Germans Ben Franklin complained about.

Post 22 knows about Italian, Irish etc immigration. Czechs were called “Bohacks”, Poles were called something similar, etc. Post 22, no redactions.

In the white collar world there is around a 3:1 to a 10:1 ratio of women graduates to men graduates

There are loose quotas but many industries and jobs have already moved from 50/50 to 95% women. Teaching, education, physiology, even many fields in research and parts of business/finance have changed massively in the last 25 years to be mostly women. In many fields the only men in the industry are foreign born and trained because no American men participate in certain fields.

This isn’t true in many foreign countries but here a lot of the gender pay gap is actually because all the new employees are women and the guys left are nearing retirement, in a few more years we will have a women dominated white collar environment and any pay gap talk will be meaningless as even in executive leadership the men will die out.

new world that many folks don’t even realize is already happened.

Immigration is a fascinating subject covering many areas and certainly provoking strong responses - unfortunately some less than civilized:

Black residents of Chicago slam city over $51 million in migrant care, demand reparations (local12.com)

New York City is one of a few major Urban centers well known for unprovoked attacks on Asians:
Man charged with hate crime for attacking Asian woman with box cutter in New York City, police say (nbcnews.com)

A Video Shows A Man Suddenly Hitting An Asian Woman In NYC's Chinatown : NPR

Currently many are physically attacking and attempting to intimidate Jewish citizens in cities and college campuses

Who's behind recent rise in US anti-Semitic attacks? (bbc.com)

Antisemitic incidents in the US reached record high last year, up 140% from 2022, ADL says | CNN

And some biases never will die
Religious Americans’ lives possibly at risk in 2024, new report by U.S. bishops says | Catholic News Agency
"According to the bishops’ report, “recent years have seen an alarming rate of vandalism, arson, and other property destruction at Catholic sites.”

It would be nice for someone to discover a cure for hatred or a recipe to instill common sense and civilized behavior in all members of the human race.

Agree. This is the situation today. It does not matter European immigrants were treated with hate decades ago.

Emigrants were the peaceniks of the sixties leaving the US to avoid the draft.

Who are immigrants and emigrants? An emigrant is a person who emigrates, or leaves a country. An immigrant is a person who immigrates, or settles in a new region.

America has been the land of opportunity since the pilgrims landed. Some things never change. Luckily some things do.

... for white European people. Not so much for the previous brownish First Nations people, most of whom were exterminated by disease or violence or land and resource expropriation. With an uncomfortable number of similarities to a present day war.

Unlike many other immigrations, at least they didn't displace any preexisting humanoids. Though may have help drive woolly mammoths, saber-tooth tigers, camels, etc., to extinction.

    Oh?

That's an unusual flex for you.
Up to now, I've disagreed with you about more than a few things, but at least given you credit for intellectual honesty.

I do not know much about the humanoids that inhabited North America in the pre-1600's but I suspect they were HUMAN.
I also 'suspect' that there were HUMANS on this continent LONG before the arrival of those 'different-looking' humans from across the pond.
I do not think of the the 'natives' as one large homogeneous mass of not-white people - and my humble education leads me to believe (perhaps falsely) that these HUMANS did not regard EACH OTHER as one large homogeneous mass of not-white people.
They warred, took and exchanged slaves, some might have even been overtly misogynistic and held to the belief that humans tend to be predominately sexually dimorphic.
Some of them may have even practiced......religion.
Their various tribes ALL DIFFERENT, ALL HUMAN, 'probably' waxed and waned for years and decades on this 'mostly not-white' continent.
    Maybe even centuries.
It's highly possible that and some tribes were replaced involuntarily by more successful ones.
They were ultimately conquered and scattered in large part by the folks who were still here when my grandparents came over from Europe.
They (we) were still here in large part when my sister in law and some cousins came over from Asia and South America.

    That happens a lot.

At least you admit that the indigs were not perfect beings that lived in complete harmony with nature. ;)

    It's a start.

If you ever need anybody else to 'admit' not agreeing to a straw-man argument, I'm open too.
