There was no room for a spare, I was given to believe.

That’s true, with the bigger plug-in battery.

Chiming in that the install with just the main black foam and the AWD wire protector worked perfectly with my LE AWD; I cut the existing foam to size, and filled the gap with some pads and other misc. items.

Also giving a shout-out to the Modern Spare tire; just had to use it today when we got a flat 80 miles from our hotel, and the spare handled that range like a champ!

When I called for a flat, they just towed me to my house. They initially wanted to tow me to Toyota, but that was about an hour away, and my house was only 10 minutes away.

I just wanted to follow up and show that Toyota made a HUGE Mistake not having a spare tire in many of their cars! And followed that up by trying to rob me of $1800 with no love whatsoever for the parts to DIY. Peace Out Toyota - you and me are DONE! I am a Subaru Family now - they sell affordable, reliable cars that come with spare tires! It was said in this chat many times "Speak with your wallet" and "Don't buy a car without a spare" and I did exactly that! Got 10 times the value my local Toyota dealer had to offer and none of the grief (such as dealing with them in Finance Dept.). Turns out my other car would "Give up the ghost" just 1 week later and I was not in the market for 1 car, but 2 and I just said F@*% IT and got a 3rd since it was such a good deal! (Certified Pre-owned with only 5K miles) :D This was the result of it, Good luck to all the Prius Owners here, hope you get more miles from yours than I got from mine. I am good and will enjoy all 3 cars that came with spare tires and a jack. I didn't have to do anything. Lovin' it! upload_2024-5-17_10-7-24.png

Amen. You're only aiding-an'-abetting the corner-cutting car companies, buying a car without a spare.

That is exactly what I'm doing. Bought an old donut of sinilar size and same bolt pattern on Ebay for $100 and put it in an old RV wheel cover. Done.

May I inquire: What model and size tire and rim did you get?

Attached is an excerpt from 2023 Prius Owner's Manual I've cobbled, has some info, including spare tire size. Screen grabs:

Toyota's official parts website "might" have the official spare tire rim, but it's been a gong show for maybe the last year. Maybe by design.

You'll notice in the Owner's Manual excerpt I posted it says "if equipped" regarding spare tire. From that you can glean there is a stock spare tire rim. Come to think of it, @Hammersmith might have the 5th gen spare rim part number at his fingertips.

Ok I finally got my spare put in, ordered the parts per this thread for my awd model except for the wire protector and foam parts, (cut the foam it came with instead) attached is a picture of it done. Jackstand only fit in the recess to the left behind the wheel arch but the tire iron and such fit in the foam insert hidden underneath. I was able to fit everything I had underneath already like fire extinguisher, extra clothes, water bottles, and first aid kit in the remaining foam area still

Only thing I noticed was a little flex in the deck board right near the middle of the tire (area not really supported by foam) so I threw a roll a duct tape in the center for support and it was perfect. Total cost was around $420 which is not so great but worth the peace of mind. Let me know if you have any questions or want more pictures

Looks great! Dumb question: what did you use to cut the foam without making a huge mess?

I used a hand saw and a half serrated knife, it was easy enough to cut through the foam and adjust what needed to be cut. But, yes. Huge mess afterwards. Took about 5 minutes of vaccuming the shop floor to get it cleaned up. Luckily the foam didnt really statically stick to anything except the table.

For not making such a mess, honestly a big sharp knife might be able to get through it without chewing it up like a saw
