Greetings; first time posting. My 2012 Prius with 125k miles suffered a brake booster failure, so looking for some recommendations on diagnostic tools. I have already ordered the two assemblies: 1) Toyota Master Cylinder Brake Booster Assembly for 15” wheels (p/n 47050-47180) and 2) Brake Booster Pump Assembly with Accumulator (p/n 47070-47060). I also ordered a new gasket p/n 44785-02060. I was lucky enough to catch the 25% off & free shipping event at certain Toyota dealerships, so all the parts were less than 9 Benjamin's.
I am experienced with many car repairs, but weak on the diagnostic/scanner side of things. I would like some recommendations on scan tools used to bleed and perform the Linear Valve Offset. I was wanting to avoid the hacked Techstream if possible, and go with a 2-day Techstream subscription for $75, or consider the Xtool D7S or D8S if they are up to the task.
Based on cost, I assume the Techstream option would be the cheapest ($75 for 2 days, plus a mini-VCI J2534 cable for $20, if they play nicely together), then next would be the D7S for less than 4 Benjamin’s, or the D8S for less than 6 Benjamin’s.
Can anyone attest that they have personally used one of the above tools (D7S, D8S, or Techstream 2day + mini VCI) for performing the Brake Bleed and Linear Valve offset on a 3rd Gen Prius? Are there any other suggestions I should consider (besides the hacked Techstream)? Note I performed forum searches, but didn’t have much luck for Gen III. Back in Sept. 2023, Priuschat member “Paul 1594” asked “Will the D7 perform a offset linear valve relearn on a Gen III”, but his question is still unanswered. Finally, I did reach out to Xtool tech support to ask about the D7S & D8S, but they quit responding to my emails for some reason. Thanks in advance.

You should check out the a u t e l a p200 I think it can do the Brake bleed on you're car it does do my gen2 no issues. It actually uses the same screen as Toyota tech software as I own Toyota on a CF-13 toughbook from a dealership and I have the AP200 sitting here side by side with the brake menus up if this would work for your car it's only like $58 and you own it and it's Bluetooth and all of that quite a nice little scanner actually and the fact that it bleeds my brakes means I don't lug around a laptop I do believe it'll do the linear valve offset also I have not personally brought up that menu to do it but I am messing with the brake bleed as we speak I would think if it will do the generation too it should do the generation 3 also but I'm not positive of that but it looks like that would be the case The software download that you pick when you buy the AP200 and you pick the Toyota software that's 119 megabyte download. And by the looks of things the menus and sub menus it looks like they borrowed quite a bit from Toyotas tech software and good luck with it this thing is a pain to change in this model there are a couple of nuts and bolts that will definitely be fun

Thanks Tombukt2. I can't seem to confirm the linear valve offset function on the AP200, so I shot an email to Autel tech support to see what tools (if any) they recommend for the linear valve offset. They already asked for my VIN. I forgot I have an older Autel TPMS programmer that has never let me down. I didn't realise they made so many scanners now. Thanks for the lead, and I'll of course report back on what Autel recommends.

Any of their tablet scanners above their series 7 or so and they're in the 9 now . You can buy the ever popular MK 800 or 808 series It's one of their most salable systems that they make they sell a lot of them I've seen it do the brake bleeding in the linear valve offset just like Toyota Tech software

We can buy those scanners I'm talking about right here used online for $200 sub 350 anyway since the pandemic people have seemed to become real proud of things they own it's unbelievable people trying to sell old stuff for right now.

Thanks for your help Tombukt2. Posting this should someone run across this thread and try to replace the Gen3 brake booster and pump parts themselves. The engineer that designed that mounting method for the ABS pump should be severely punished. I spent 10 minutes trying to get that nut off the rear of the pump since it's right next to the main wire harness and inner fender. Luckily, a couple of dollar-store telescoping magnets helped out. Anyways, I finally replaced both the booster assembly and pump assembly by watching the yt video by Automotive Insight. I then fired up my Techsteam and Mini VCI J2534. Techstream was working great until I went to bleed the brakes. Kept receiving a "lost communication with the vehicle" error message. After searching these forums, found another person who had this issue. Apparently the J2534 doesn't have the horsepower to bleed the brakes? The recommended solution they found was to buy a Tactrix Openport 2.0. That runs about $200. So I debated buying it, but by chance I found a brand new, on sale, Autel MX900 for $400. (Autel finally got back to me and confirmed this MX900 should work to clear that pesky c1451 code.) I went with the Autel MX900 solution since I could use it for so many more vehicles. I figured 1 more repair (or replacing a smart key) and it would pay for itself. (I already saved $1500 or so doing this job myself, right?) Note I am aware there is a manual method of bleeding the brakes, but I don't think it will clear that c1451 code or perform the linear valve offset. I hope someone posts a less-costly solution contradicting me. I also changed the front & rear brake pads, and spark plugs while doing all this work, since it made sense. At 125k miles, I was surprised to find both front and rear pads were thin. Finally, I want to just state how easy it was to follow the Autel instructions for brake bleeding; it's a nice tool! It did however take about 3 hours to update the Autel tablet when I first fired it up, due to so many feature updates. Vehicle is now running great without issue!

Yes I'm looking at the latest what is it Not the 900 but the 808 You got the $900 for $400 That's a pretty smoking deal the AP200 bleeds the brakes I do believe for the generation 3 and I think it can make the linear valve offset but I honestly haven't tried it I did run through the brake bleed on a generation 2 and it seems to pull up the menu that looks just like it doesn't TIS or Toyota software so I'm guessing that Toyota selection when you buy the AP200 and that hundred MB download is pretty much whatever somebody has selected from the Toyota software that they thought they should include or however that might work.

If interested, check out MX900 ebay item 176067083545, sold by official Autel reseller for $399.20. Arrived from New Jersey in just a few days. This is where I sourced mine. Who knows for how long this deal will last though.

That's really about what it should be these things that are going for $3,000 and all this kind of nonsense is total crap then you have to have subscriptions for those too they call that shop level but in this day and age that's anybody's level who wants to get in on that game I don't service every brand and every make a car but the scanner I'm going to have to buy that's bi-directional and can do everything I want to do to the few cars I do mess with will be programmed to do hundreds of makes and models That's just the way it is and more or less the way it should be I shouldn't have to have every stinking manufacturer software for each vehicle that I own that just seems really dumb to me that's not OBD2 that's OBD proprietary

Do the wrenching, bleed it the best you can and limp it to a dealership for the Techstream?
