My last 18 months in the Marine Corps, I was stationed next to Arlington Cemetery. It takes a couple of days to put the flags up and days to pick them up:

Arlington was started on Robert E. Lee's home . . . an act to ensure he would never reclaim his pre-war home. I've been by similar cemeteries in Vicksburg.

We are headed to the Cemetary today at 10:00 am to attend a Memorial Service for all the Veterans who have died in Wars hosted by our County Officials and local VFW Post.

We will then put some flowers on each of our parents graves.

I hope our kids remember when they were youngsters and I used to take them to these services - they were in scouts and used to place little American Flags on all our Veterans' graves.

Hope there is some spark of remembrance in each of them for what this day is really about.
