Yes, you can. The car automatically gives you a tough time if it's running or the fob is in the car - it doesn't want to you accidentally lock yourself out. Anyways, the solution is to use the little metal key in the fob to manually lock the drivers door. I'm pretty sure you'll then also have to use the metal key to unlock it, as well.
