Hello, I am a staff member at Kyoei Japan, a Prius specialty shop in Japan. I'm asking this question because I think there might be cases in America where driving distances are typically longer than in Japan. While we haven't seen any cases in Japan yet, have you heard of any cases where the engine oil pump was replaced due to noise during engine start-up? In Japan, we often see noise issues caused by intake system contamination, such as in the EGR valve and throttle valve, but this noise is different - it's similar to the noise that occurs when restarting the engine after replacing the oil filter. If you have encountered any cases of such noise, please let me know. Thank you.
Anecdotally, I've read about many complaints of certain engine noises at startup which subside after a few seconds. I've never once heard of anyone replacing an oil pump in a Prius.
I've not heard of a oil pump replacement on 1zz or 2zz let alone 2z fx hybrid duty. I know these all can be replaced but usually the engine would be shot with a few seconds of lo and no oil pressure. These engines have no headroom for oil pressure loss
Thank you. There are no signs of oil pressure dropping while driving, and it's probably not a serious issue, but we will continue to gather information and investigate the cause.
n/a prius don't have oil pressure gauges. so even when people mention startup noise, no one measures the pressure
