So a while back my 2013 aqua was stolen and driven 100 meters down the road and ditched. It was the classic break the 1/4 glass window, rip out the plastic shroud covering the ignition, smash ignition barrel and start the car with a screw driver. After recovering my car it had the following issues.

    1. No ignition barrel
    2. Headlights & indicators not working
    3. TC/Slip light on (the light that comes on when surface is slippery)
    4. Cosmetic damage (windows etc.)

When I got my car home in the following week I replaced the ignition (terribly expensive to get one here in New Zealand I'll add), replaced the 1/4 glass with plexi from work, got a replacement connector for under the steering wheel from pick-a-part and rewired it in place of the old one, which fixed the headlights and indicators (mostly)...but I still have the issue with the slip light being on.

I tried doing a zero point calibration...didn't really know what I was doing and just ended up turning on almost all the warning lights (ABS etc), so I took my car to a mechanic who used their fancy machine which cleared the other lights but left, the slip light on still...they said it was the clock spring so went ahead and replaced the clock spring and did an alignment and calibration but no joy... In the end he gave up and said it's probably the ECU.

I should mention this mechanic is possibly not the best and is certainly no auto-electrician, he got his "electrician friend" to look at it and it was him who decided it was likely the ECU. Any advice how I can troubleshoot the problem and identify what the cause is before I go and throw way too much money at an ECU.

I'll also mention, that sometimes if the connector which I replaced/soldered is moved a bit, or the indicator stalk is moved around the steering wheel (I haven't replaced the plastic shroud...too expensive, don't care about cosmetics atm but this allows movement of the indicator stalks) the right indicator won't work and I'll need to move it around until its sitting in the right spot. Not sure if this is linked to the slip light at all.

Also is the position angle sensor the same as the clock spring??? I can't seem to find a straight forward answer that explains what the position angle sensor is if not the clock spring (in the steering wheel). An auto-sparky said the issue is position angle sensor...the mechanic that replaced the clock spring said its the same thing as clock spring just different name

I can add pictures if needed. Thanks in advance for any help!

maybe a speed sensor cable got damaged during the theft, did the mechanic pull all the trouble codes with a prius aware scanner?

Honestly, couldn't say for sure, communication with this mechanic was not the best as he didn't speak very good English. I was not made aware of any codes, I used an OBD2 scanner myself and found nothing but doubt it was "prius aware" as I've never heard of that.

In all of that work, I don't see for sure that anyone has asked the car why its TC/Slip light is on yet.

    I would do that.

If there isn't a scan tool handy to get that information, this may work: Blink (a/k/a Flash) Codes – How to. | PriusChat

Late update but this is still an ongoing issue, I've been ignoring it for a while as I've been busy with other things. I took my car to the local Toyota service for a diagnosis and quote for repairs. The error causing the TC/Slip light is C1433 Steering angle sensor circuit error. The mechanic I used replaced this twice, so it seems unlikely that both of the replacements were dead and more likely that the wiring to the steering angle sensor is faulty.

In the quote I was given I was told the wiring loom needed replacing (as first course of action), the headlight switch needed replacing and the steering angle sensor needed replacing and the quote was for $3600 NZD (waaaaaaaay out of my budget)

I'm thinking I could probably replace the wiring loom myself if I can find the right part, has anyone done this before on their aqua (or similar)?

Do not start a new thread. It is much better to keep everything in one thread because it is the same issue as reported in your post #1.

Any suggestions on best approach to tackling this issue (as cheap as possible :)). Would it be best to search for a wiring loom/harness to entirely replace this? Any tips where to look for info on the wiring and where to buy?

So still a bit stuck here. Anyone advice how to approach this. The issue has to be from wiring IMO, the clock spring/wheel angle sensor has been replaced twice and the issue has persisted and I did have issues with the wiring for my indicators because of bent pins in the connector as well as the high beams do not work when the headlight stalk is clicked forward which should be high beams permanently on but the high beams do work when the stalk is pulled back, how you usually use for flashing.

Replacing even a portion of the wiring harness is going to be a big project. Best source will be an identical model in the scrapyard.

I do mean identical, if from another year or it has different options the wiring can be different enough to matter when you are working without an electrical diagram.

I wish I could suggest a good repair reference, but I haven't seen the repair manual or wiring diagram for the JDM version of the car in publication anywhere.

You can get an inexpensive subscription to the USA version, but there are enough differences to matter. I wish you luck!
