Prime rear window exterior trim.

That never happened on my 2017 Prime, so I don't think it will happen to the 2020 Prime. The bottom gap is a minor annoyance for me. But the top gap is major concern when the sheet of ice on the roof get broken off and get caught in the hinged area. For that reason after a major ice storm like the photo below, I never open the hatch door until all the ice are gone.

 

That left picture could be my car 90% of the time except for the paint color. I admit that it bugs me, but I don't sweat it. If I had to deal with ice, though, I'd be just as concerned as you.

The thing is that it seems like if I brush or blow the leaves out of that area, most of them go into the car no matter which way the wind is blowing.

 

My guess would be that capillary action is our worst enemy with this issue. The more stuff we put into the glass joint, the more small crevices will be created and therefore more opportunity for moisture to accumulate. It ain’t broke. Just dirty. High pressure water gets my vote!

 

Yeah, if that fit in the gap and would not come off, then that is a winner. Do you have a link? From your picture, it looks to be a simple "C" shaped molding. I hope one of the trim pieces I ordered will also work. I will let you know in a week when I get them.

 

Thanks for the link. That looks similar to one of the molds I ordered but a bit smaller in all dimensions. The top pic is from your link, the bottom one is the one I ordered. I will see how the one I ordered works and if it is too big, then maybe try yours.

Any update on this?

I have both Live Oaks and pine trees in my yard, and they fill these gaps quickly. Worse, the Live Oak leaves will sometimes flip up in the bottom gap and then show in the rearview mirror.

I REALLY want to close up that bottom gap. But the "CloudBuyer Auto Dashboard Seal Strip 5.25Ft/1.6M Edge Trim Rubber Seal Protector Guard Strip for The Space Between Dashboard and Windshield of Cars" is no longer available.

Sorry, I don't own PP any more. But IIRC, the strip I bought ans shown on the comment above was more for the top gap which is much wider... but need to be wider because the hatch need to swing open. It did fit, but with the strip inserted, the hatch will not open smoothly. And I could make it sty in the gap.

I did not do anything for the bottom gap. It is much narrower but it does not require any movement. My thought was any silicon calking would fill the gap, but will require some skill to apply in the gap and looks good. I did not have that skill, so I ended up not doing anything for the bottom gap.

For the reference, the measurement of the gap on the top is about 3/8" wide and bottom gap is ~1/4" wide as shown on my comment #9 above with a photo.
