Hey guys. I have a 2015 Prius model two with 92,000 miles that has an intermittent humming noise coming out of the engine bay. Do you think this is the inverter pump or the water pump? Sometimes I think the humming noise is coming from the driver side, but then at times it feels as if it’s coming from behind the engine! I did run tests on techstreme and I can’t seem to find anything. I’m attaching the YouTube link in case someone has had the same issue before. https://youtube.com/shorts/BNYNrld6EWU?si=lKKQ8GI0Lq4AuWuC Thank you.
When you zoom in right over your water pump that seems when the microphone picks it up the best so right there at cylinder number one water pump never heard of water pump sound like that but I guess and you could just unplug it to eliminate it for a second but that sounds like engine carrying on there maybe a valve stuck in the cylinder head a flattened out camshaft lobe any any of that kind of stuff compression down in that cylinder versus the other three The freeze frame data from a capable scanner may give you a reasonable clue this car has enough computers to simulate that stuff and give you a good indication of what might be happening.
OK, thanks for the feedback and great idea Disconnecting the water pump. I’ll use techstream freeze frames option to see where this leads. Thanks again.
