The car care nut says original toyota oil is the best for transmission oil but I am a little confused because he mentions WS and ECVT so I am wondering what WS and ECVT means and is the dealer the best place to pick this up? Thanks
eCVT is a reference to the type of transmission used in Toyota hybrids including the Prius. WS is the fluid Toyota sells for it: You can get it from the dealer, but it's not hard to find. Amazon, Walmart & others carry it.
eCVT is what The Car Care Nut youtube guy calls a Toyota transaxle. Which is what Toyota called them as well.
IMHO; put in what your year, make, model fluid your OM calls for. People use different words to mean different things and same words for the different things. If you go to the dealership and they punch in your VIN; you should get the right stuff. DO NOT trust them when they say, 'that's the stuff you need' - they need to look it up! I had a dealership parts guy hand me a cartridge oil filter, and told me I was nuts and wrong asking for a spin-on. I asked him and his boss to walk outside with me and pointed to my spin-on oil filter. Then the guy started making excuses on why he was wrong. I told his boss it's poor form to call customers idiots, and he didn't even try to look-up my car on the computer..... If it's a 2010 Prius, I'm pretty sure it takes around 3.5 quarts of ATF WS Hope this helps.....
