After Twitter/X, he became a distracted, an often absent CEO. So last year, I sold all my TSLA stock and now have 10 shares sold-short. He remains an AWOL manager. Recent events at Tesla and SpaceX suggests the natural consequences are showing up.

Plenty of time as it appears to be progressing on Elon time. So “was” is accurate.

Yes but I don't see any human ever visiting Mars....at least not anytime soon. We just don't have the science/technology to protect from long-time exposure to deep space radiation.
But having a cyber/robot (Tesla Optimus) walking around, and waving at the camera, would be pretty cool!

"Yes but I don't see any human ever visiting Mars....at least not anytime soon. We just don't have the science/technology to protect from long-time exposure to deep space radiation."

That said here, here must be a place to respond. "soon" is for you to define, of course. Musk's Starship first needs to get past its current exploding phase. Then do multiple launches and fuel transfer. All expect this to be first aimed at Moon, not Mars. Am I wrong?

Humans to Mars and return will require >2 years of protection from ionizing radiation (mentioned by @ColoradoBoo). I have not found SpaceX saying how to manage that, mostly en route, and it limits my expectation and yours that they can do it.

SpaceX Starship stands as the only current tech to actually colonize Moon by reusing expensive hardware. Even though they do not call it their goal. It is not a small goal to colonize Moon, as many tech details need to be worked out to make any distant abiotic rocks inhabitable.

    ==
With all this, we might suspect that Musk to Mars is over reach and misdirection.

    Nope.
    Over Reach?
    Story of his life.
    Missdirection?
    Naaaaah I don't think so.

If anything, a dispassionate look back on his 50+ trips around the sun yields a pattern of 'saying the quiet part out loud.'

I’ve got 10 short-sell shares so I see a lot of reasons for TSLA stock decline. I note that those who would not buy a Tesla still won’t buy one. No evidence of ‘conquest’ sales improvements.

There are noisy claims about former Tesla owners leaving but conquested to what? No one is bragging about conquest sales of former Tesla owners.

So I go back to basics:
    • Distracted CEO
    • Non EV products
    • Newest EVs, pickup and semis, small markets
    • Full Self Driving terrifies established drivers
So I am not one to ‘sell’ a Tesla to skeptics. I’ve shared my positive experience but the foolishness of others is not my problem and may be an opportunity.

There was an article about a personality who took a hit on his Tesla trade in for a lucid I think.
I’m sure tesla is losing sales to other ev makers.
Not everyone needs the charging network, and there is increased access to that as well

Its been interesting to see people who think and vote based on emotion. Humans can't help have it affect us but being able to base it on personal use case is very important...I'll like the 9mm-.45 argument..... newer version is the .300 Blk or 4.6 x 30mm. complaint. They are different tools for totally different jobs. a PHEV is a more well rounded car.but it is not THE car. If I lived in Manhattan NY a Subway pass is the BEST Car. Manhattan KS.....an E bike. A Tesla is ideal under the correct conditions. Our stable has a Prius, Mercedes GL 550, and a Model Y. 4 bicycles. and 2 scooters. Everyone wants to be RIGHT in their choice...but there isn't one choice...
The cola wars....Coke vs. Pepsi....ship sank after the marketing wore off...and a Lot of us found out Sugar is Bad for you...doesn't matter where it comes from. it's like yelling at the rain...everyone knows its wet but that fact isn't argumentative....when it falls and how....that is..so that's what humans want to do. What do think is going to happen when Elon sells access to the FSD Database based on ML? Or...I wouldn't put it past him to put a limited section of data in the public domain....then what will the other car manufacturers do? I don't know but I have a very good idea.

I might buy one not because of musk but because many Teslas are entering <$5000 beater status

Elon should be removed from his company, because he has conflicts of interests and because he is ruining AC Propulsions legacy (the real Tesla)

I think that Musk has been on the outs with the leftists since he broke the twitter machine, back before the rest of the 'tech bros' started supporting 'he that shall not be named.'
I do not see very many in the far left burning Amazon gift cards in effigy - or calling for a mass boycott of Facebook or Meta by the woke-scolders, and I seem to recall Pichai Sundararajan (commonly anglicized as Sundar Pichai) at the last Presidential Inauguration.
    I 'Googled' it...;)

Musk is doing something much more revolting in the eyes of the far left.
He's threatening to shrink our federal government!!!

I have an acquaintance in his 40's who has his 20-year pin with the FDA whom I spoke with about this on one of my grandchildren's field trips yesterday. I live on free soil, so parents and grandparents are not only ALLOWED to come onto a school campus but this activity is actually encouraged.
'Alex' said that he's lost a few people out of his group since the recent Administration took charge but he also acknowledged that this is something that people 'in the real world' have been dealing with for a while now.
His office is in a different city and he has to actually drive to work and......work now.

    So yeah.
It's not ONLY that Musk is supporting "he that shall not be named."

Musk is actually getting 'S' done rather than just showing up at an inauguration.

Actually he fixed a bunch of crappy Twitter software. I had a Twitter account pre-Musk but found it awkward and full of nonsense postings. After Musk, it was more stable but at least I could filter out the worst offenders . . . 'chat bots.' But then I found Musk decided to repeat every useless piece he found cute. So my Twitter/X account is:
    upload_2025-3-19_6-59-35.png

Oh yea, I'll 'wait 48 hours' to try Twitter/X again . . . or longer.

I think Tesla is #1 in the EV market, right now, but they better step it up....Toyota is doing some amazing R&D.....This is from an AI search:

Toyota's research on rechargeable batteries focuses on solid-state battery technology, aiming for faster charging, increased range, and improved durability, with a goal of commercialization by 2027-2028. They are also exploring battery recycling and circular supply chains. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7]

Here's a more detailed breakdown of Toyota's battery research:

    Solid-State Batteries: [2, 4, 8]
    • Focus: Toyota is heavily invested in developing solid-state batteries, which use a solid electrolyte instead of a liquid one, offering potential advantages in safety, energy density, and charging speed. [2, 4, 8]
    • Goals: [1, 2]
      • Increased Range: Aiming for a 20% improvement in cruising range compared to the performance version of the square battery, and a 50% improvement in a higher-specification version. [1, 2]
      • Faster Charging: Targeting a charging time of 10 minutes or less (SOC=10-80%). [1, 2]
      • Durability: Addressing challenges like dendrite formation (tiny, needle-like structures that can cause short circuits). [8]
      • Commercialization: Striving for mass production and commercialization by 2027-2028. [1, 2]
    • Technological Advancements: Toyota has made technological advancements to overcome challenges associated with solid-state batteries, such as ensuring long-term durability and preventing dendrite formation. [2, 8]
    • New Cathode Material: Researchers, in collaboration with Toyota, found that using a new type of cathode material, copper nitride (Cu₃N), for all-solid-state fluoride-ion batteries (FIBs), could increase the EV range to two folds. [9]

    Generative AI is experimental.
