My dealer gave me a coupon for a free oil change at 1000 miles....now is this recommended or just a way to get me in the habit of using their service center? they also said they like to check everything out just to make sure the car is ok....normal?
1,000 miles seems quite a bit early. The earliest I've ever heard of someone going in is 3,000. Would likely just be a tactic to get you in their service center, as you said.
My dealer did the same. I took them up on it. Some folks say leaving the original oil in during breakin is ok, but I really didn't want to leave it until the first scheduled 5K change, so getting the metal filings out at 1K seemed like a reasonable thing to do for free. They also did give it a good once over and put the diagnotistic computer on it just to see if there were any codes. I was clear, but it was a good exercise IMO.
In the Netherlands the first oil change (and all others) is (are) after 9321 miles (15000 km). The same as for many other cars here.
