I have a 2012 Prius 4 and plans to add a dashcam. The manufacturer hardwired kit comes with mini fuse plugs where I can plug directly into the fuse box under the dash without using vampire taps. I was wondering if anyone has mapped out the unused fuses for which might have constant or accessory power. I would prefer to leave the existing fuses alone if possible. If nobody has it, I may do some investigation on my own and post back here.
Some tapped into the rear view mirror years ago. It may not provide power to the camera anymore has modern cameras takes up more power / amperage.
The auto-dimming rear view was a great choice. It has constant and acc power available right where you need it. I had done that in the past as well. I could tap these lines, but since i have the install kit would prefer to go right from the fuse box. The rear view camera has an install kit that has mini-fuse plugs and, for the constant power connection, a small inline piece of electronics that won't bleed the battery down too low. I have had this connected to my Gen2 and now sometimes don't start for a week and never had a problem. The constant power is for a 24 hour surveillance that takes pictures every so often and for a shock sensor.
The tap fuse must cost an arm and leg, I don’t blame ya for wanting to put it into use then. Bye rear view view mirror power source.
I think the price on Amazon is $22, but the manufacturer has sent me this on multiple occasions for free to go with the dashcam.
honestly, you could do those t taps but i don't really like them. i much prefer a fuse tap if possible, but in your case I would recommend those obd2 dash cam units. I have it in mine and its like less than $25 and is so easy to install and take off in case you need the obd2 port.
I have not heard about odb2 dash cam units. I guess they pull power from that connector? Its funny because I have another thread here asking about a remote starter that looks like it is may have used my obd2 port. Unless its a weird OEM thing, my OBD2 is still available, it looks like a daisy chain connector. If its all oem then I am wrong about it. I don't mind putting in fuses into the box under the dash. its relatively clean and I can forget about it.

Thanks for sharing that. The manufacturer of my dash cam sent me a kit to hardware the dash camera for free. They normally sell it for $22. I thought it was cool because it had the voltage protection for the constant power for 24 hour monitoring. Your OBD2 product has it as well. Can't argue with the ease of installation. I will definitely share it with other people that don't want to mess with hardwiring.
