I have an odd issue which I can't figure out. I have a 2013 Prius v with 233k miles. Car runs great but all of a sudden I'm not hearing any sound from the rear speakers. I checked the fade setting (obvious first thing to do). I can't imagine the rear speakers just failing. The sound from the front speakers work fine. Can anyone make any suggestions as to what I should check? Thanks. iPhone ?
Circuit boards in the head units heat cycle and cause cracked solder joints. Had this occur with the expansion card on our 2012 v Five. Replaced with an OEM unit of more recent manufacture, which will likely fail the same way in a few more years.
Do you have the upgraded version with an amplifier under the front passenger seat? Or just that standard version with no amplifier under the seat?
I have the OEM. I will look into replacing the OEM head unit with a used one. I'm in no rush as I'm not an audiophile so the diminished fidelity will have to suffice. iPhone ?
If it is a 57011 the rear speakers never produced much sound and most of that is bass. I have always faded about 3/4 to rear but the dash and front door speakers dominate unless the radio source is fm hd and the song has strong bass.
Sounds extremely plausible. If the vehicle was newer I'd consider investing in a head unit replacement. Thinking back, my 2004 Prius had a similar issue but there was no sound at all. I ended up using a Bose portable speaker and streamed from my phone. iPhone ?
I completely agree. Truth be told, I listen to talk radio so it's really insignificant. You are definitely spot on regarding your assessment of the rear speakers. iPhone ?
You can also pull the door panels and confirm the two rear speakers are working with a speaker wire you're sending music through or touching a small battery to the wires to get a clicking sound.
sometimes just tapping on the door panels while the fader is full rear (in your case) and the volume is up Another thing you could try before finding a new head, since you're already planning that, pull the dash panels (just like when replacing the head) and check the speaker plugs and sockets. Sometimes just pulling plugs and reseating them works like magic. - same with the speakers (if you want to pull the door panels and take a closer look). Or ask an installer at a auto sound shop.
