What a goofy car these are in some ways! Don't get me wrong, there is a lot that I really do like about my 2005 that I've had seven months now! If it's going to make an obnoxious beeping sound when I'm backing up in reverese, it should be on the OUTSIDE of the car not the inside, what's the point to that? Anybody know how to disable that feature? Thanks.
If you obtain a copy of Techstream (search this forum for more information on that) there is an option to disable it. I think perhaps it only converts it from constant beeping to a single beep, but I may be mixing up the 2nd generation with the 3rd. I like the single beep mode, which announces it is in reverse if for some reason one has a brain fart and moves the lever the wrong way, but then doesn't keep beeping so that you can't hear much of anything else.
If you use Google you'll find a 'chicken dance' to disable it. You can also disable the seatbelt beep if you'd like. Here's the reverse beep disable technique. I just googled it
Only to pull the dashboard and cut the wire to the speaker...or add lead wires to it and install a switch
I’d prefer the reverse beep to be replaced with something more specific, say “IN REVERSE, IN REVERSE, IN REVERSE…”.
Disabling is possible on Gen2 of the American market. For the European market, they came up with a way to reduce the volume of the sound of the squeak about the reverse gear. Sticky tape on the output of the speaker sound. It is written in detail how to do this in German. Rückfahrpiepser – Prius Wiki
