Championship series is underway. Just now I am observing Univ New Mexico having a nice first half against Michigan State. Having been a New Mexican in years past.
meh. I haven't watched college hoops in a while, and from what I've seen in the last few years, I haven't missed much. Ole Miss did get close enough to cover the point spread, but one normally associates the Rebs with a non-ball-shaped ball game - so it's hard to get really exited about it. The same can be said for Bama, The Vols, Tech, and Auburn....etc. The "elite 8" Cinderella Story is a number 3 T-Tech, so...... Bob is right about the ladies' play. Instead of 5 individuals similarly dressed, the better coached of THIER teams are actual.....TEAMS!! MY mileage. YMMV.
Ball games that 'drama' like this: are interesting to more than supporters of two teams involved. They are anything but meh.
All number one seeds. At least that is STATISTICALLY interesting......if not 'nearly unprecedented' (meaning something that happens every 15-20 years....)
Ranking of teams for tournament this year was accurate for these #1 seeds. So it may be that other aspects of ranking were also accurate, specifically the teams that each of them needed to beat to get to Final Four. Which ones were at most risk of elimination up to now? I define close games as <10 pt victory margin for this purpose. Auburn had one against Michigan St (70-64). Florida had one against UConn (77-75). Based on that I predict Auburn beats Florida (odds makers go the other way). Duke had a close game with Arizona (100-93). Houston won closely against Gonzaga (81-76) and against Purdue (62-60). Based on that I predict Duke beats Houston (odds makers agree). If those hold up, Championship game will be Auburn vs. Duke, with Auburn winning. That is tenuous, Auburn had one 'win by 6' and Duke had one 'win by 7' (odds makers go the other way). But Duke has had 6 Championships and Auburn 0. Heart goes to Auburn Anyone else care to predict the rest of this series?
