Hi All! What are my options for more storage? Any roof rack options out there if you have a solar roof?
Same as regular Gen 3 . You're just covering solar roof when attached . It's not worthy anyway storage is
Yep box on the back or a platform and stuff on it whichever and you don't have to reach up on the roof if you're not tall enough to get at it of course you have to have a receiver to accept either of those devices
Curt hidden hitch... Just about anything made out of the 2-in square tubing you're using here will hold 500 probably a thousand plus pounds what are you kidding it'll be the draw bar and the connection that fails when it's together not the receiver for God's sakes I don't need the receiver that's capable of being on a sprinter van for a Prius there's nothing that can go back there anything like that will put the Prius on the ground and break it in half The hitch will be mounted perfectly The back of the car will rip off from the unit construction holy Christ too good man too good.
Man, I always get a good laugh when people throw out their opinions like they’re undisputed facts. The whole idea that you “don’t need a receiver capable of being on a Sprinter van for a Prius” because “there’s nothing that can go back there” — really? That’s your logic? You’re basically saying that putting a serious hitch on a Prius will make it break in half. Like… what gives you that impression? Have you actually seen a Prius break in half from carrying weight on a hitch? Where’s the fact or evidence to back that up? Because from where I’m standing, that statement has zero merit. It makes no sense. And frankly, it’s wild that I even have to take the time to respond to something so off-base. The box mounted on the back of my Prius with its contents weighs an easy 500 pounds, and guess what — it rides just fine. You absolutely do need a trailer hitch that can support that kind of weight, especially when you're leaving pavement and heading into rough terrain like in the videos below. Also, since this receiver is angled a few degrees towards the sky, you wont need a hitch riser like mostly all Prius Owners who installs another hitch.... let that sink in! Thinking outside the box is what makes this platform capable. Spreading nonsense like this just holds people back.
No I did not say break on half did I . Sorry . What I'm daing is look at Curts hidden hitch from Curt mfg. It'll suspend the whole car if ya like butt first in air from crane it wider across rails mounts correctly across wider area of rails. Noo need for 2x tubing that thick . Anyhowwwww. Look again
I have a Curt hitch and curt tray. I've loaded it up with 300 lbs of coolers and meat for transport back home over 500 miles. I've seen some solar roof panel set ups which work but will have some drag. I have seen people now installing curved panels by essentially gluing them to their roof and running the cables back under the roof. This could work but it is a permanent install. Were you looking for something you can remove?
I've had receivers on more toyodas than most have owned .I promise ya that . I've got receivers stacked up over they're for a bunch of Toyota cars when attached correctly you can hang car from crane I've done it right here on this property.
Clearly we don't think alike... by your logic, because someone lives in southern California they don't need a 4x4 Tahoe and should get the 2WD model... but then you aren't thinking about what if the person wants to drive to Tahoe or other snowy place and when they do... they would've wished they bought the 4x4 version.
I think the solar roof is a waste of money anyway, but if you want to cover it with a roof rack, more so.
I'm guessing someone's testing the waters to see if it would be viable to come up with a rack that won't block the solar panel I can imagine It's not like the solar panel is doing anything seriously viable I mean on your roof rack you could always carry two or three panels that are viable and a little larger and put your gear on top of those underneath them they're not using when you're driving down the road just when you get set up at camp if that's the end game here
I think I once calculated that to charge the vehicle, you'd need enough solar panels to cover 3 parking spaces.
You mean the hybrid battery or maintain it or something yeah probably so I guess these new things are like 440 Watts of pop so I don't know whatever certainly not viable to carry three parking spaces worth a solar panels but I mean you see people carrying two medium size ones with one of those silly battery bank generator power supply jobs I guess they do fairly reasonable but going to take up a lot of room in the Prius not much room for much else
I think if I were engaged in such nonsense, I'd have a roof rack fabricated with a floor made of expanded metal. It might at least catch some rays when it's empty.
sounds like you are living in the past... there is now a solar panel setup that unfolds across the car from bumper to bumper that can charge a tesla...
