And Dr Prius...I got it today hoping to mainly to turn off the dam reverse beep only find that it isn't available in the gen 2. Waste of money in my case plus some of the stuff to test ie full battery test I need to pay for. I will probably sell it to someone as I doubt I will use it again. Not happy. Not the car won't start, no ignition lights, nothing. When with the fob out the eml is on all the time.... what has happened.
Engine management light. As I say though, I am not impressed with the thing at all. I only got it to turn off these dam beeps and it won't work on the gen 2. Waste of money to me.
Try this... If not disassemble the dash and cut the wire to the speaker in the Combination meter. Or muffle it with a piece of foam and gorilla tape, Or fill the speaker with hot glue to prevent it from vibrating..
You can use search either in the forum or google. (If you're keeping your Prius, you might consider hanging onto DrPrius just to keep tabs on the High Voltage battery) https://priuschat.com/index.php?posts/484396 Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Regarding the reverse beep i turned it off using the chicken dance style YouTube videos on both gen2s I've owned. Your no start, no power issue could use a better explanation. Have you checked 12v voltage? Does the brake booster activate like normal when walking near or around the vehicle? What about when pressing the brake. Do your interior lights turn on, how about headlights?
I had a cheap ELM BT OBD plug I got online somewhere, probably Aliexpress. It kept draining my battery, so I quit using it. Now I have a Vgate iCar Pro Bluetooth 4.0 OBD2, which has a power-save feature when it's not being accessed. It stays plugged in all the time, although the LED indicator lights stay on. So far it hasn't caused any problems.
Just curious, would you still want to turn off the reverse beeper if it injured someone who didn't hear you coming?
I'm pretty sure the reverse beeper only sounds inside the passenger compartment of the car - it's NOT an external horn like commercial trucks. FWIW: I used the correct Veepeak in my gen4 to get the reverse to a single beep with no issues. You have alternative ways to silence that reverse beeper in gen2 & gen3.
And it's purpose is to warn the driver he/she's in reverse. It's a bandage solution for the return-to-centre shifter. Oh, there's also typically a column display of the "gears" on the dash, and the current gear has a lit-up surround. Neither measure is that effective, compared to the traditional automatic shifter.
Torque is no longer supported and needs older versions of Android. If your phone has anything recent Torque may not work at all, regardless of which dongle it talks to.
I tried that too but no, will try again though incase I missed something. I am not starting to take things like that to bits just to stop a beep. On the veepeak/Dr Prius it gives the two boxes at the top left to tick but when you do it says 'not available on the gen 2". Now I was sure the videos I watched were in gen 2s, all American yes for some reason but American. British is obviously different.
Yes, those procedures only work on the North American model. There was one comment recently in another thread from a Brit were he stated he was able to turn off some beeps using an app, but don't quote me on that.
