When the daytime running lights are on are the rear lights on? If not is there a way to make that happen?
Not under US regulations. Canda recently changed theirs so they are. I regularly spot people at night that mistake their DRLs for headlights by the tail lights being off. Don't know of a simple way to get the tail lights on. Presumably, somebody that knows what they are doing could switch the US spec to Canadian in the software. If the headlights are auto off, you could just leave them turned on.
I had a neighbor who decorated his car with extra lights like a Christmas tree. It was ostensibly for added safety as I recall. I understand the concept, but "overkill" by definition means, "too much." As opposed to "just right."
Set the lights to parking or fully on (headlights on). I’ll do the latter on wet days, and/or rush hour traffic.
I'd be a bit leery of using my headlights during the day, owing to the fact that it might reduce their longevity, and I don't think replacements would be cheap.
I don't see anything in the 5th gen Owner's Manual, regarding bulb replacement, just a vague indication they're all LED, and to take it to a dealer$hip vi$it to deal with them. Joy... $20 CDN sealed-beam headlights are just a distant memory. Looked up 2024 headlamp on Toyota USA parts site: Left side p/n: 81070-47A60 Right side p/n: 81140-47A60 Suggested retail: $1075.13 USD Headlamp Parts | Toyota Auto Parts US dealership near to me have them for $775.63 USD apiece.
Does anyone really believe that LED headlight replacement will be a cheap bulb you can buy at Wal-mart?
The LEDs themselves will likely last past the time the lens is completely hazed up. You're lucky to get a halogen bulb for that price now.
The first LEDs lasted a long time. The industry has learned ways to shorten their life. It's usually done by over-driving them with too much current, but using cheap capacitors also works. I used to think planned obsolescence was just a conspiracy theory, but there's plenty of evidence if you know where to look.
Looked up our '81 Civic, struck out, not $20: $11.39 USD. Shopping Cart - Bernardi Parts Honda Yeah, our 2010 Touring has LED low beams, so far so good.
The cheap halogen at Canadian Tire is $16.99. Name brands start at $20. If sealed beams had continued, they would have moved to using halogen for the improved performance. Then the reflector and lens would add onto those prices. edit: Sticking with sealed beams wouldn't have prevented the expensive housings. Some models were already putting the sealed beams behind aero or stylish lens.
