I doubt it has a problem with the actual stick size, but you'll need to format it with a <=32GB FAT32 partition.

In actual fact the 128 GB stick was in exFAT, i've just changed in FAT32 and i'll try it again.
Just downloading the update thank to your post, thank you (y)

Third update didn't go smoothly - got stuck, and unable to proceed.

There have been a few failure reports online - most common seems to be an error at the end of the process, but getting stuck with 20 minutes to go on the progress bar also occurs, and that's what happened to me.

Head unit got replaced (under warranty) - from other reports it seems like generally that's the only fix if a nav update fails.

Now, I've got a newer head unit (part 86100-47893, factory fitted since 7/2024) with newer software (2230, rather than 2050), so maybe it'll be better at future updates? Although the "service code" needed for updates is blank - looks like they forgot some initialisation step. (Seen that reported by others too.)

Most obvious differences with the new software are a different "agree/disagree" screen, different energy flow animation, and the addition of a little "speed limit alert" status icon at the top.

That icon isn't shown in the latest Prius manuals, but manual for the C-HR suggests that could work as a toggle button for the speed limit noise ("in some countries"), but it doesn't do anything when I press it - it only indicates the enable state set.

I'm suspecting that is Toyota's answer to complaints about how hard it is to shut the beeping up, so I think it's intended to work in the EU (it seems to not contravene the rules - which only insist it goes back to on after power-up, and that it's not easier to deactivate than activate).

It might not be working for me because I haven't got a newer dash unit to go with it that would respond to the control - there was a new dash display from the same 7/2024 time, according to the parts database, but it's not a "simple replacement", unlike the multimedia display.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "simple replacement", but I have to say the dash display is about as easy to replace as the multimedia display from a physical perspective. You pop off two bezels, then remove four screws. I removed both when upgrading my side mirrors, and the dash display was actually slightly easier to remove and reinstall.

Now if you were taking about problems with software/firmware compatibility, then never mind. ;)

Yeah, I meant substitutible part number. The "SIM" tagging in the database. Maybe that stands for something, but its "simple" in my head.

Actually, it's presumably a software rather than hardware issue, so it's possible a software update would get them talking.

I know Toyota can do software updates for the main system (eg bz4X got some tweaks), and from the repair manuals I believe one of the jobs they should normally do along with a head unit replacement is a software update for other ECUs.

I don't know if there are any updates for the Prius's dash in the system. Wonder if they missed an update step along with the navigation license registration. I'll ask them to check on the next service.

(Can't generally find any software update info in the toyota-tech site myself - dealers have some extra sources, I guess).

Still holding out hope I might end up with an easier-to-defeat beep.
