WOW, that is genuinely impressive. Thank you for sharing! I’m really curious—how on earth did you manage to fit a hacksaw into such a tight space? That sounds like a feat in itself! But most importantly, did you find the answer to your original question? Is it actually possible to remove the inverter water pump from below, or was it truly not doable? Your determination is inspiring!

 

Looks like no. The bolt tips (with 3 notches) in my post 457 have their heads above the silver pan above the black bracket, impossible to remove, or reinstall. Plus the pumps coolant lines are all way up there.

it’s a sand-pounder too: it’s right there, another bone-head design oversight, similar to the requirement to remove wipers and cowl to remove spark plugs.

again, @NutzAboutBolts said they looked at removal solely from below, and it’s just not happening.

You’ve got to be a tireless stoic with this stuff. I’m thinking to replace by miles, say soon after 100k, for both engine and inverter water pumps.

I had nothing on, rainy afternoon. Trust but verify at play?

 

Hacksawed when out, in a vise. It took ages getting it out too, bolt head around far side, surrounded by hoses, only box wrench could get on it, and barely able to turn. Spinning it back down with the slot was a breeze.

almost tempted to perform “surgery” on some of the brackets down there, but better listen to @rjparker.

 

You’ve got to wonder, considering the cutouts in that bracket, apparently to facilitate access to the screws on that underside cap: where the engineers thinking about just taking the cap off and swapping in a new rotor?



there have been engine water pump rotors for sale, for some time.
