    edit: 2008 Prius

I had my 12v replaced last week at a Toyota dealership with their OEM battery. And since then everything has been working fine (although it’s been harder getting my mpg up to what they were. I’m around 3 mpg less).

today I drove to work. Everything working fine. Car sits for 8 hours. When I come back to it, I’m driving home and notice my MFD is black. Stereo works.

I have yet to check the fuses, but is it possible that this could be related to the new 12v? Or could it just be the common issue I’m reading about of MFD failure? (There were no warning signs tho. Everything was working fine.)

The MFD may not display an image if the setting is set to turn off the screen.

A more unfortunate scenario is when the internal backlight lamps of the MFD fail.

Then either change the MFD, or if you are an electronics specialist, disassemble the MFD and replace the electronic components.

Yeah I've seen some of that article before I think That's a great write up problem is once you start taking on that task right there you're doing the work of a $150 plus an hour electronics tech I'll just snatch one out of another car which there are plenty pretty much an endless supply It's not too long from now that these cars will be long gone so having to pay somebody three or $400 to do these antics in this article is quite costly for most people grabbing one or two MFDs out of other cars that are sitting in junk yards That's not so problematic and with the cars falling off the streets pretty quickly right now they should even go pretty cheap You just have to know where to look these cars are everywhere nowadays tow lots sitting half disassembled all over the place just because people saw dollar signs with these cars so a lot of people kept them around half parted out and so on thinking they were sitting on gold mines and just what weird people think 20 years later not so much of any of that is come to fruition so now it all gets beat up crushed and dumped in a hole You catch it before that and you get what you want.
