I've had to replace my coolant valve for a while now with a P1121 code; I figured I would do a full system scan on my prius (2005) as the engine sometimes runs rough and out of curiosity. I used an Innova 1000 Bluetooth scan tool which has previously worked with no issues on several cars including this one, though never with a full system scan on this car. As the scan progressed, the RTOD came on and so did the ABS light, and then the gauge cluster started flashing (fuel pips and all squares around the gears). The code on the MFD was "PS," and if I cleared the Powertrain "codes" (which in the report, were the same ones I was getting before), the PS code would be replaced by the red car with an exclamation point seen with the hybrid battery issues. I'm at a loss as to whether there is actually something wrong with the car or if my scanner tricked it into thinking so, and how to progress from here.

The codes I'm experiencing are thus:
    U0293
    U0100
    U0111
    U0123
    U0293
    U0126
    U0124
    U0073
    U0129
    U0121

Also, when I cleared the Powertrain codes, the system would go into ready, but when the engine turned on, it would rev up, and then shut off and present the codes again.

Some scan tools try to determine what communication protocols the car uses by saying lots of things in lots of different protocols and seeing what answers they get, and sometimes the car thinks it heard swear words.

Are the lights still on if you disconnect the scan tool and power cycle the car a few times?

Duh... I work in IT, you'd think I would try this first. There was still an RTOD with the hybrid control but I plugged the device back in and cleared those codes, and now all is well. Thanks for the help!!

It wouldn't surprise me if even the triangle would have gone away on the next power-up or so. All U codes are communication errors, which might be attributable to having a device on the bus saying weird things, and a lot of those codes have a go away if not detected in three normal startups or so rule.

I might have given that more of a shot before putting that device on the bus again to do a code clear.

One other thing, sometimes it isn't a matter of anything actually transmitted by the device, but just quality of the contacts. I once had an OBD-II thing I had built using a cheap connector that had unplated pins, and it worked great at first, but by a few years later simply plugging it in would trigger piles of lights and comm codes before even using it to do anything.

I rebuilt it using a better connector with gold-plated pins and never had that happen again.
