Hi all I've recently bought a Prius 2018 Japan import. Unfortunately the airbag light has come on out of the blue. There has been no crash or any incident. When the computer was plugged in, it showed a code as 'B1000 airbag ECU malfunction' please see the attached picture. Then a gentleman(electrician) scanned the code again tried to clear but it wasn't clearing. He advised that the SRS ecu is faulty and needs to be repaired or replaced. So he took it out of the car. A days later he said the ECU is not repairable therefore a replacement needs to be sourced either from the Dealer (very costly) or a second hand used one from elsewhere. But there is no guarantee that the used ECU will be plug and play or will need to reprogrammed or recorded to work or it will work at all.....given the very high cost involved I need your help or advice please. Car pictures are attached. Srs ecu that came out of my car is attached showing the part number 89170-47611. I've found a used replaced in Poland picture attached showing the identical part number as 89170-47611 but the other info such as the barcodes etc don't match. Could anyone with experience answer the questions below please. 1. Will the used parts found be compatible with my car for replacement. 2. Will the used part need to be coded or reprogrammed or will it be a plug and play? 3. What if even after replacing the SRS ecu the airbag light still doesn't go away....what should be my next step? 4. Could there be any other cause of the airbag light and B1000 code showing other than the SRS ecu malfunction? 5. Any idea of the cost involved of getting the SRS ecu recorded? Thanking you all in anticipation.
Thank you for your advice. Unfortunately I lack the scanning tools, the tools to measure the voltages and have very little knowledge if the car electrics. Therefore seeking advice here as someone might have across a similar scenario and mey know the expected outcome.
Hi all just an update. I received the replaced airbag ECU with the identical part number. I plugged that in that car and the computer showed the attached errors. I then used the computer to clear the attached error codes. When I scan the car now there are no codes showing whatsoever but the airbag light is still not switched off. I've also tried disconnecting the battery for a few minutes. Any help guidance will be very much appreciated as to what should be the next steps. Does the replacement ECU need to be coded or programmed with the cars main ECU. Kind regards
