Today, I pulled up to a curb and got a little too close, and scraped the concrete with my rims. It's noticeable up close, but not so much from farther away. I could probably buff the scratches out, but it will probably happen again anyway. I guess I'll have to live with it.
i had the same with mrs b's new hycam, and she was sitting in the passenger seat i notice a porsche parked about 2' from the curb in the same place everyday. i bet those are expensive rims
There is at least one if not more Porsche models that offer carbon fiber rims. You don't ding those without typically getting a crack. View attachment 270891
Curb rash is better than a bent rim, I s'pose. There are training aids available for those who need a little help with their parking skills.
I installed a camera on the passenger side of my Gen 3, but it was too much work to get it to display on the screen.
They're like this? Machined aluminum alloy with clearcoat? That's more difficult to blend than silver-painted.
That’s the scrapes, on the right side? Difficult to deal with. I think the fix is to turn the wheel on a lathe, skim a thin layer, redo the clearcoat. Cost rivals new rim. They’re still salting the roads? Ugh…
That's not too bad. The good news is that is only a rim and not the side of the car. However, I might suggesting washing the rims (and car) and using a protective spray on the rim in order to minimize corrosion.
Where I grew up they didn’t salt the roads (much), and mainly just put sand down. However come spring there was sand everywhere.
Sadly not as yet. I’d check the underbody, look into rust prevention. I found rear suspension in particular very vulnerable, even here on the west coast. Are you able to raise it yourself?
I lived in Montana for a few years, and they used only sand or sometimes just let the snow pack into ice. I prefer my roads salted, not sanded, thanks.
There's no getting away from the sand. It destroys windshields. I try to stay off the highways until it rains a few times.
Lots of gravel in the sand mix here - get stuck between the treads, then at high speed it launches interior windshield. Replacement here is a booming business. One of our vehicles last windshield swaps was a 2nd - pulled out of a wrecked vehicle
We once had a machined-face rim resurfaced, insurance job and I can't recall how much. Maybe around $200~300 CDN. A local to me place, might be the one that did that job, for reference: WHEEL REPAIR & REFINISHING SERVICES | Vancouver Wheel Repair and Refinishing Specialists - Panther Precision Machine I did contact them recently regarding respraying a set of alloy rims, colour coat plus clearcoat, and this was their response in part: If the wheels are straight your looking at approximately $200-225.00 per wheel (Canadian dollars)
