I'm so sorry if this has been posted a million times before or is in the wrong place. I have searched the forums both here and Reddit trying to find solid information. I see a lot of information for Gen 2 & 3, but can't find info on Gen 4. Please direct me to the right place/info if this isn't it! Where the heck is everyone getting their HV batteries? I want prism, not cylinders (not greentec, green bean, or lithium ion). I want OEM, but it has been a fight to get a Toyota dealership to sell me one because "it's a liability," and "it requires specialized equipment." At this point, I'm okay with aftermarket, as long as they're new cells and not refills, because I'm seeing some of these known refurbed sites selling their assemblies at the same price as OEM new. I have a 2017 Prius, pushing 200K miles, and I can tell my HV battery is dying. I'd like to replace it before the triangle of death/hybrid system warning kicks in. Toyota has quoted me $5K (roughly) for them to do it. Also, they have been quite condescending when I call to ask if they will sell me one. No thanks. I am quite comfortable with DC electrical systems, and okay doing it myself. Thank you!
I think if you press them a little harder your local will sell you a new OEM over the counter. I'm in Toyota's Gulf States Region and have no problem doing this.
call every dealer you're willing to drive to. some will, some won't. i couldn't recommend aftermarket. you should do a health check on your battery instead of trusting your gut
Why do you think your battery will die soon? mine is lithium type 260k and it works like new.55mpg. Have you tried charge/ discharge cycles to your baterry very simple process
Tince you have a Prius Two, it has the NiMH battery like older generations but with improved Nickel quality. Another option might be from a junkyard. I know my 2017 Prius Two with less than 57K miles is likely sitting somewhere in Virginia. Getting t-boned in the passenger door by a 4Runner did not affect the battery.
