good day . im hoping one of you , or more , can give me some ideas . check engine light came on last week .started losing power . starts right up . seems to have normal power at takeoff . but at cruising speeds any hill slows me down to a crawl . 50 mph on a slight grade . then picks back up on a flat . had local oil place run the light . they said egr code. tried a reset . it when its straining , wont go off . tried to disconnect power today . same results . had the head gasket done last fall . supposedly egr cleand at that time .been running great . no oil or coolant use . very little mi. since . maybe 5k .im pretty sure its not misfiring .started acting up shortly after a gas fillup .within 100 mi. got new gas today after running it down to 1/4 tank . no change . mpg is now 30 + - . seems if i back off the throttle the power trys to recover . but under full throtle trans. starts slipping . revs go up . speed goes down .... could a restriced fuel filter be the cause ? would be welcome , thnx ,bill

So you know how disconnecting the 12v will reset codes, thats what you could have done and plug the egr back before reconnecting 12v.

Wait like 5 minutes while 12v is disconnected.

    No tow needed

you haven't damaged anything, but you do need to get a prius aware scanner, or take it someplace that has one for the correct trouble codes

You shouldn't really do that. I know people here tell you to do it. But if you don't understand why
you are doing it, then it's likely not a good idea.
If you disconnect the 12v battery for 30 minutes or so, it should clear the codes and you can drive it.
ANYTIME you get a code, it is wise to read the code, It will help diagnose what the issue is.

You write the topic "2010 prius egr code", but you have not read any codes. Why EGR?
There could be a hundred and fifty reasons. Bad fuel causes misfires, bad air mixture causes misfires, etc.
So was there a code or not and how did you read it?

There are two different trouble codes that could be triggered by the EGR system. They are P0401 and P0403. The troubleshooting process is different depending on which code you had. That is the reason people are asking what for the actual code.
