I have had a shaking noise in the steering column for a while, I tried tightening the 12 mm bolts and that didnt help .

I read about this dampener being an issue

I got one of these and just took apart my steering motor and find that mine does not seem to have this part in it.

Did they have different motors in them? Mine is a 2013 Gen 3, or am I supposed to take the motor further apart? There are 2 more bolts I could remove but everythin I ve sen looks like I am at the right stage.

Any tips or advice before I put it back together and call it good!

Yeah I think Ill just put it back together.

It is a Denso part and I dont see any reason why it was replaced so I guess they used different motor types on different years??

Gen 3 had two different motors at the same time: the single phase, brush-commutated one on lower trims, and the three-phase brushless one on the trim with 17" wheels.

I only see two fat wires on that one so I'm guessing it's the single phase. I don't know if that accounts for the different spline arrangement though.

What is the part number on your steering column?

I am not sure which part number is for entire column but I got these pictures. One is the sticker on the power steering motor and the other is on the underside of the column. Sorry for photo being upside down, I couldnt figure out how to rotate it.

If you select the photo you want, Bottom right of the screen you'll see "edit", tap it.
It will open separately, then you see at the bottom 3 choices, choose "crop", Then at the
top left corner you'll see a square with a left pointing arrow, tap that to rotate 90 degrees.
Depending on the photo, do it 2 or 3 times....

I just replaced this damper in my 2013 Prius Persona 2 months ago. I bought the car because the original owner had this problem and the Toyota dealer told him that they would have to replace the entire steering motor and shaft.
I got the car and could see the somebody had tried to tighten every bolt that could reach in the steering shaft to no avail.
I went to a boneyard and took apart a unit in a wrecked prius and didn't find the damper in it.
Caught a video where a guy had the same issue in a 2012 Prius V.
    .
The part isn't listed under a Prius. It's listed under a Camry.
This was fix for me. I've done this repair in Hyundai's before. No issues here either. You don't have to pull out the steering wheel out of the car. You can just drop it to gain access to the Electric Steering Motor.
Further research suggest that you'll find this problem in the heavier Prius's such a the Prius V and SE cars that ran the 17" rims. (That was the case with my 2013). Good Luck.

There are two versions of steering columns. The author of the topic has a completely different EPS, which does not have the specified damper, see #4
