    I'm new user,
    Best Regards from Poland
I can't find answers for my questions
Question is about AurisII but I think is the same as Prius3.
    It have NI-MH battery.
Hello I have a question about the P0A80 error because I found two descriptions of this error on the internet.
    1. Replace battery pack
    2. Battery ECU error.
I'm writing from memory, so maybe not exactly like that, but you know what I mean. I'm digging into the topic because something doesn't suit me. I found information that it is a problem with the cells and I don't know if the same problem has been edited differently in different models/years, or if they are two different problems. Now it occurred to me that various applications can also have an impact. Dr. Prius points out problems with specific cells, but after replacing them with newer ones and changing the order of all cells, the problem is still with 3 and 12 or 12 and 13. Is it possible that the battery controller is dead and crashes after about 200km of driving? I unfasten the clamp and continue riding. I know that the battery is also weak, but the previous owner has already replaced the cells and I think he gave up because of it. The CarScanner app does not see the error at all. Thank you.

If you look in the repair manual (which is the right place to look :)), you only find the correct one, (1).

Gen 3 no longer has a thing called a battery ECU. In earlier generations there was one, and it was an ECU in its own right, separate from the HV ECU up near the dash.

In gen 3 there's still a little box with wires back there, but it's been demoted to "battery smart unit" or "battery pack sensor module" and it's pretty much just a remote-sensor annex of the power management control ECU in the dash.

There is a P0AFC code for a problem with the sensor module, and a P0A1D code for a problem with the power management control ECU. But P0A80 is a judgment on the condition/performance of the pack. All of these codes are in the P0 range where codes are standardized industry-wide by SAE, so Toyota doesn't get to play with their meanings.

Those reports are in Polish but I think its understandable.

Your high voltage battery has problems. If you simply swapped modules around, it won't solve the problem. It may fool the high voltage battery computer for a short time, but after a while it will fail.
On this screenshot (Screenshot_20250428-205231_Dr Prius.jpg) in the fifth pair of modules there is a problem with one module. The voltage difference between adjacent modules is more than 1V. This happens when one of the six cells in the module is damaged and then the module has a voltage of not 7.2V, but 6V. The battery ECU measures the difference between adjacent pairs of modules and when this difference reaches more than 0.3V, it generates a battery error code.
On this screenshot the problem is in the 12th pair of modules.(Screenshot_20250428-004929_Dr Prius, Screenshot_20250428-005438_Dr Prius, Screenshot_20250428-205205_Dr Prius)
    Tech Tips

DTC P0A80-123 is stored when a malfunction is detected in the HV battery or battery voltage sensor. If the HV supply battery is malfunctioning, the malfunction may not be reproduced when the condition of the HV supply battery changes due to difference in driving load (amperage), battery SOC and battery temperature. Therefore, use the freeze frame data when performing a repair.

    • When the HV battery is malfunctioning:

      • Voltage of one or a few of the battery blocks has dropped. (voltage difference from that of the next block is 1 V or more)
      • Voltage of all battery blocks is output randomly with no certain pattern.
    • When the battery voltage sensor is malfunctioning:

      • Differences in battery block voltages have a certain pattern.
    • In order to ensure HV battery performance, appropriate cooling performance must be maintained. Perform the following as necessary:

      • Make sure the air intake port is not blocked.
      • Make sure there are no gaps between the connecting parts of the ducts.
    INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Battery repair consists of diagnosing all modules for their residual capacity, internal resistance and self-discharge (voltage reduction). Then, rejecting faulty modules and replacing them with serviceable ones.

Thank you, colleagues, for your help. I already know that this battery needs to be replaced, but... Can someone explain to me how it works, that after swapping the cells, DrPrius shows the problem all the time in the same places? If the application shows a broken block, e.g. no. 3, then after replacing it with number 5 it should show a problem with number 5. Why is there a problem with the same places all the time after changing the order???????

I use the Hybrid Asistant on a daily basis. Today I compared, for example, the percentage of charge. I'm posting screenshots from this morning. I see huge differences.
The car did 300km, after about 50km when going downhill it braked with the engine, I thought that the HV system error would pop up again. I stopped, turned it off and on again, I didn't disconnect the battery. Only restart. The next 250km without problems. Fuel consumption on the screen 4.3L. Driving around the city without traffic jams.

Hybrid Assistant can also test the battery.
Click the wrench symbol and select battery test.
The Hybrid Reporter report will show a graph by module pairs, a graph of the largest discrepancy between low and high voltage, and a table with the parameters of the high-voltage battery.
On the high-voltage battery, it is worth inspecting the condition of the test leads that connect to each pair, as well as the orange connector on the block in the battery where the test leads come in.
Corrosion can introduce error in the measurements.

??? You say you know the (?hybrid?) battery needs to be replaced, then continue on that you
replaced cells....???? Are you saying you are playing wack-a-mole?

Or did you replace the whole pack? Did you balance the pack? Did you reset the computers?

I've taken the battery out and rearranged the cells twice already, I've balanced by connecting all the + and - with a cable. During assembly, the voltage was identical on all modules. In order to remove errors, I unplugged the battery clamp. (I haven't driven it recently so it was unplugged for two days, After that I did 600km without a problem, yesterday again HV system error) I found a thread about removing current from capacitors. Shorting the wires from the Aku 12v was supposed to help with this. Yesterday, after the error occurred, I used this method. After turning on the car, even before the combustion engine started, Dr. Prius displayed P0A80. Maybe auris requires the use of some demanding interface or software like techsteam. No other android app shows the error. Only Dr. Prius sees it.
I'm thinking about replacing the battery controller itself because it looks like it can't be removed from the error or it's damaged. When driving with the seat off, you hear a squeak similar to charging a flash on a camera when accelerating. I once had a PC motherboard that squealed so much because of worn capacitors. I need a few more days to collect money for the service and during this time I try to fix it myself. I'm just inquisitive. The battery is worn out because it is old, but in my opinion something else is out of order.

The battery is worn out because it is old, but in my opinion something else is out of order. I'm pretty sure it doesn't clear the error from the battery controller. Now I found on a Polish forum that someone was disconnecting the 12v battery and pressing the brake for 3 minutes. This is some kind of "hocuspocus" but I'm going to check it out.

    hope dies last.

    EDIT
Unfortunately, the same thing is still the same. After a few hours with the battery disconnected and the brake depressed, the drPrius still sees the P0A80. Even without turning it on READY. Then I checked the battery through hybrid assistant. (battery test). At first, it was even and high. A moment later, the chart diverged and then evened out again Wth??????? In the winter I had a problem with the 12v battery. It discharged and I charged the charger Now I check every time. Every time I plug it in, the meter shows from 12.4 to 12.9v Can it still be damaged and cause such problems?

?????? (n)(n)(n):confused: You thought swopping them around would fix it?
After removing the oil after 5000 miles of one car, and putting in another car will make it new clean oil????

I expect that if I pour the old oil out of the engine and pour it into another engine, and I pour clean oil into my engine, then after such an operation there will be clean oil in my engine and dirty oil will be in this other.
Why other apps don't see this error at all. Why can a car do 500 km around the city without any problems? I edited my previous post. Please take a look at the screenshots from HA. Thank you.

    edit
In addition, when the problem appeared, I immediately bought 3 pairs of batteries, used, in good condition, checked, I balanced everything and the problem is still in positions 3, 12 and 13.

Read post #1 and then scroll down to post #37 in this thread, https://priuschat.com/index.php?posts/3246758. Post #1 and #37 explain why the other apps you are using do not detect the P0A80 code.

Based on the screenshots in post #11, it appears that one of the two modules that make up block #14 is bad. You need to determine which module is bad and replace it.

Need to extract battery data. This is Hybrid Assistant the hybrid reporter submenu. Graph and tables will show the module pair that contains the faulty modules.

Unless you miss wrote, you said you swopped the blocks to different positions.
This doesn't do anything to repair the problem, but move where the error to a new location. It doesn't fix it.
