Female connector is the same way. You can take the module out of the battery pack completely and take it apart...or use a skinney dental flosser Q tip style device and make a baking soda vinegar paste. If really bad a dielectric grease can be added

Deoxit is made to spray on both sets of contacts and insert the connectors together a couple of times. If you can get in there on the male pins with a qtip on not bend them or leave debris, fine. Never stick anything on the female side unless it's the exact right pin. I would not use much else as a cleaning solution.

Oh well, cleaned it up best I could, blew it out with compressed air, threw some dielectric grease on, and had the same issue. Will replace the pack next

did you unplug the 12 volt battery for 10 mins or clear the code first? If so and it re appeared......then maybe a new battery ECU to replace the corroded one.

    Yes I did.

Code came back, blocks 1 and 13 low voltage

UPDATE: Attempted installing the V3 GT sodium battery and was almost electrocuted

see pics. After installing the blades, I went to place on the bus bars and BOOM! Sparks galore. I ripped the bus bars off as fast as I could, but here is the aftermath.

already in an email chain with Jack, but what the hell… did I do something wrong here?

it welded the bus bars onto the threads…

I am pretty concerned at this point, and somewhat defeated. The cost and time that this vehicle is down is really starting to be frustrating.

Does anyone know why this would happen?

This would be my third DIY hybrid battery installation and this was ever a problem before.

You could have moved the jumper and shorted the module (+) and (-).
Not a very good design of the terminals of the homemade battery. No so-called "foolproofing".

Is there a voltage leak from the battery to the case? Have you checked with a voltmeter?

I suspect this is user error. Troubleshooting:
1: Post a top-down, high resolution picture of the entire pack with the blade tap harness laying inline with the blades (but not touching)(i.e. the harness is just laying beside the pack).

2: Verify the module with service disconnect terminals wasn't shorted.

3: Measure and report each blade's voltage.

    ...

It's not my product, but in general I wouldn't recommend using unfused cells that have been shorted out. High current discharge can cause the internal cell conductors to melt down, which could produce a latent failure down the road (e.g. if a compromised internal insulator subsequently breaks down). Jack might offer different guidance², but in general I would disregard it in the abundance of caution.

Regardless, you might not be able to salvage that pack because it appears some of the threaded posts no longer exist. If you're up for it, I'll pay you whatever you paid for the sodium pack, plus shipping, plus $500 if you ship it to me. Jack of course won't like this, but that's not really something he can do anything about (due to first sale doctrine, unless you signed an NDA, in which case my offer is void). Send me a PM if you're interested (and if I get banned for posting this, send it to my reddit handle: redditmudder).

    ...

²FYI: Per the guidance on NexPower's FAQ, Jack is likely to tell you that I am "not a battery expert":
For the record, the only factual claim Jack makes here is "<mudder> doesn't own a Prius". For example, Jack's claim that an LiBCM customer's cells "puffed up" is entirely false. Jack is likely referring to a pending customer who purchased Samsung modules from a 3rd party, but does not yet have any LiBCM hardware. Jack's/NexPower's claims are textbook defamation per se, but I won't bore anyone with the legal details here. We all know how that went last time, so I guess I'll choose a different venue.

Yeah, this could have been an "off-by-one" error, which would directly short any blade whose terminals were shorted by the harness busbars. After looking at your pictures again, it appears you didn't place the blade voltage measuring harness on the same terminal as the right-most high current cables, which would cause the off-by-one short circuits you observed on several blades.

Glad you're ok... fortunately, you were probably dealing with low voltage, high current. Otherwise you might be blind and/or deaf and/or dead. High voltage high current shorts are no joke.

you are correct, embarrassing user error. Yikes.
was able to thread it all down properly, though a few bus bars should probably be replaced, thank you guys for all your assistance. Fun times for me! Would be going through hell without the help of this community

Am off-by-one error is just as possible and just as bad with an original pack. It's just something the person doing the work has to be careful to avoid.

I'm slowly ending up in the same boat here. Very concerned to even drive the car short distances as it could just further damage stuff (or even worse, catch fire like other incidences documented). I'm going to take some time and write the owner up to see what can be done. My brother is an electrical engineer and works on high-voltage equipment for international companies, so taking it apart and documenting what has failed and why won't be too much of an issue.

The bottom line is I feel this scenario is setup in that I can't repair this battery (with less than 15k miles in 2.5 years on it) unless I bend the knee and pay even more for "beta hardware". As the battery stands, it's a fire hazard. I think more people should know to avoid this company and any future products if the support/warranty is basically "I'm poor trust me I got it right this time".

People could absolutely die from this stuff catching on fire (or be harmed by smoke inhalation of toxic materials).

P.S. I'm kinda lost as to why staff closed other threads on this issue (Nexcell issues). I read the other thread and it definitely seemed like the one gentleman wasn't necessarily a "competitor", moreso he was just genuinely concerned at the quality/approach the Nexcell team took towards solving the battery issue with Gen 2 Prisues. I sensed some strong vibes of "someone is getting paid to defend this company" due to the amount of slander being thrown while evidence/stats/real life experiences were being ignored.

Also just found out I bought the battery on MAY 30th, 2023. It's MAY 1st 2025. I'm in California, which has some pretty tight warranty laws. Just talked to a legal rep and they said as long as I can showcase proper installation/etc (which I can, we own an automotive company), they said this is pretty straight-forward.

I shot the support line an email, asking for warranty support. If I'm being forced to pay money to fix their issues, well.............I'm definitely involving a legal representative. That's just not happening and I have no problem having someone on retainer handle it in court (small claims or otherwise).

I bought the battery with the intentions of NOT needing to replace it (2500$ overall) within 15,000 miles or 2 years. I'm not going to pay MORE money just to support bad (and very unsafe) business practices.

Yes I agree. Customer service aspect is lacking to say the least. Paying an additional $770 to replace something under warranty is not the answer.

so far, the sodium battery is working without a hitch (despite me shorting the terminals temporarily).
We’ll see, I’m too deep into this to turn around now.

I was confused, too... particularly when the moderator banned me (and nobody else initially²). When I appealed, the moderator seemed primarily annoyed that I was causing extra moderation duties, casting substance aside in the process. Meanwhile, Team Jack members began claiming that any new account posting negatively about NexPower was me³. And then a month later they unbanned me without explanation. I don't get it.

I concede that there was some unfruitful quarreling between Team Jack and myself.
From my perspective, I mostly presented facts/issues/concerns, while Team Jack defended their flag entirely without substance. In fact, they went to great efforts to ignore my specific safety concerns, instead focusing on character assassination and "he's a competitor" (as you point out).

It's still wild to me that all it takes to lock down any priuschat thread is for a couple members to jump up and down screaming non-scientific character assassinations until the moderator gets annoyed and closes the thread. I voiced those concerns directly to the moderator, and was told that their hands were tied... so it seems like this is the official policy. The results speak for themselves: contested scientific discussion isn't worth the effort on priuschat. I'm not the first person Team Jack has run off.

    Hey, that's me.

Yes, safety is my primary purpose for raising these issues, which are numerous. I initially raised these NexPower safety issues privately to Jack, who rebuffed my concerns and then began privately defaming my professional reputation⁴.

The wild thing is that NexPower approached me initially to fix their design issues... and then once I informed them how major their issues actually were – and that they needed to issue a blanket recall – they cut bait and attempted to throw me under the bus. During this time they knew their lithium products were doomed⁵, and yet publicly they claimed everything was perfect and if anything went wrong they blamed it on anything else besides their own defective product⁶.

Team Jack continued their "NexPower Lithium is Perfect" facade right up until the day they announced their new sodium packs. Suddenly their battle cry changed to "NexPower Lithium was flawed, but Sodium is Perfect". And yet the same fundamental issues remain in their product today.

I agree: Team Jack mostly consists of members who benefit financially each time someone purchases a NexPower pack using an affiliate link, which they are happy to provide.

    ...

²The bar to getting banned is much higher for a Team Jack member. That happened a few days later, when a zealot conjured an accusation from thin air, where the only evidence was that myself and another member were in cahoots simply because we at one point lived in the same state.

³The ONLY other priuschat.com handle I've had any offiliation with was 'testUserLegalResearch', which as the name implies was indirectly created on my behalf during my month-long ban... and which was quickly deleted by the moderator prior to 2024NOV18.

⁴Team Jack is always quick to mock any semblance of 'professional reputation' I may have. Even NexPower publicly libels my name on their website.

⁵Fixing their hardware issues was the reason NexPower contacted me in the first place.

⁶Such as poorly maintained brake pads (causing the cells to fail), radio interference (for why the Signal Soother was discontinued)

I think I remember not being surprised by that part; it was my recollection that something the mod said at the time of the ban was about it being temporary for a month or something. But I haven't gone back just now for the exact wording.
