The Prius Gen 5 LE has standard 195/60/17 tires, with no spare tire, just a repair kit. I am considering replacing them with 215/55/17 run flats. 195/60/17 is (7.7"wide x 26.2"high) vs. 215/55/17 is (8.5"wide x 26.3"high). It is .8" wider than the standard tire. Would there be a clearance issue with calipers or scrubbing during turns?
No you won't have any any clearance issues. I'm running 215/60R17 for my winter set. So same width but taller. No issues at all.
I am using Bridgestone Blizzak 215/60R16's on 16x6.5 (5-114.3) and have had the car in a few Utah snowstorms so far. VERY impressed with the grip and control ('23 LE eAWD)...
Upgraded my tires on my 2023 Prius LE. The OEM tires are 60/195 R 17 I went with Bridgestone Ecopia EP422 Plus215 /55 R17 91H SL BSW VM 70,000 mile tread life warranty Results: Positive: much, much better handling Actually feels sporty. much better wet/inclement weather handling, rain and hydroplaning (don't have snow/slush so not sure there) better stopping and staring. Negative: much worse miles per gallon. After 2,000 miles significant improvement. Probably still down 4-5 miles per gallon. Now about 50-51 (measure tank mpg) I still think is a good change still get DTE after fill-up of 500 miles edit: corrected tire size to actual 215/55 R17 was originally looking at 205/55/R17. Sorry if putting down incorrectly 205/55 R17 caused any confusion. Also; previously had another ID on Prius chat but couldn't find it, again sorry. This is my third Prius : 2010 and 2016 before. Also, have 2020 Avalon Hybrid Limited, 2022 RAV4 hybrid Limited, 2022 Lexus NX 350h luxury and frequent poster on NX forum. This was meant to be a purely informational post about the advantages going to a 215/55 R17 tire. I was really not looking for answers or comments. Peace to all. YMMV, MidCow3
