Snapped almost clean off. I have no idea how it happened, but I think the rubber coating may be the only thing holding the mast onto the base. To my knowledge, these cars don't have satellite radio. This car is a Five with navigation. What is this antenna for? And more to the point, what's involved with replacing it? Are the mast and the base two separate parts, or does the whole thing have to go? And can that be done without removing the headliner inside? Thanks for any wisdom that anyone has to offer.
They do have satellite radio. The antenna is used for am fm satellite and cellular mayday if equipped. The cellular was 3g. The mast simply screws on and can be replaced easily. The base is actually a preamp and is more difficult if the electronics inside fail.
Base stays mast unscrews just below break. All kinds will fit took one from other car screwed RT on. And better made . Newer etc
Thanks to all for these informative answers. Another dumb question: I saw someone selling a mast that looks identical to mine, with the wire coiled around it. It explictly was labeled as being from a "non-navigation, non-satellite" car. Does it make any difference?
Navigation satellite antenna is plugged into the MFD and resides on top of the dashboard it's a silver metal non-polished thing with a coil of metal behind it and some such I have one laying here somewhere it has nothing to do with the antenna that's screwed on to the rear of the car that's generally for your radio completely separate antenna the navigation antenna if you look at the dash breakdown since pretty much under the dash top it's connected to the back of the MFD which is the brains of your navigation or some of it and the rest of it s under the driver seat the antenna just right on top of the dash hanging out the windshield where the signal might be coming from
A gps antenna for satellite navigation is entirely separate from the rooftop preamp used with satellite radio.
