Hello to all, I have an inquiry concerning leaving my 2007 Prius. Is there anything special I need to do to this car as I will be leaving it in my garage and not operating it for 30 days during June? I plan on pulling the orange plug for the hybrid battery and also disconnecting my 12v battery. Thanks for any and all advice!
Shouldn't disconnecting the 12V be sufficient? The cells in the pack will self discharge the same whether the orange plug is in or not. The pack cannot discharge in the normal manner (current through all the modules and out the high voltage line) if the 12V is missing unless a mechanical short is somehow introduced.
If it's an old battery; I'd probably put it on a automatic RV battery maintainer - instead of disconnecting it. Disconnecting the battery will erase a lot of settings and the engine may run rough for a bit, as the ECU relearns the engine parameter settings. Hope this helps.
30 days shouldn't be any problem if you're 12 volt goes to hell in a hand basket just be prepared to buy a new one and everything should reset and be back to normal so certainly it will test your 12 volt I don't know if you have a powersports or low ah tender you could put that on that would pretty much guarantee the battery wouldn't collapse unless it is really bad but other than that no there's no issues I've got one here that sits that all the time and then on the 31 day I take it you know for a six or eight mile and then 12 mile drive whatever doesn't seem to bother it a bit car works fine sometimes I drive it a little longer and I try and maybe use it for a few trips during the 30 days instead of letting it sit the whole 30 day just whatever I can remember to do these days getting old don't remember stuff kind of funny
Yeah either disconnect the neg cable of the 12 volt battery, and/or keep it on a smart charger if practcal. The latter will avoid the car losing memories, but no big deal. Absolutely no need to disconnect the hybrid battery service plug, for 30 days. For a longer hiatus, say over 3 months, even then disconnecting that service plug doesn't really help much I think: it'll isolate it, but don't think it prevents it running down. Toyota stresses that for the health of the hybrid battery the car should driven at least every few months. From your gen 2 Owner's Manual, somewhat vague: And from gen 3 Owner's Manual, slightly less vague: Both quotes use the phrase "several months". Who knows, three? Four? For what it's worth, our 2010's build-date was August, 2009, and we bought it, new with around 10 km (not ten thousand, just ten) on the odometer, in November of 2010. We found in on the back of dealership's lot, under cover, very dusty, a dead bird lying beside it. No problems as yet from the hybrid battery.
