I just bought a 2017 Prius 2. My previous car had a Sony Carplay unit I installed myself, and I already miss it. The one thing I really don't like about the Prius is that the screen is very low; I have to take my eyes off the road to look at it. This matters a lot when navigating a strange place using Apple/Google Maps, because you look at the map a lot, which means you take your eyes off the road a lot, which isn't very safe. Does anyone know if there are Carplay units that, when installed, will raise the screen up above the level of the factory display, even if only by a few inches? I know this would block the middle two vents; I think I can live with that. I'd rather have the safety of the screen being closer to my normal eyeline. It seems like some of the new "floating" displays might do this, and I can probably make my peace with the extra cost. But I really don't need a big screen or some of the more expensive features, just a wireless Carplay unit that sits as high up as possible. Thanks, everyone!
I appreciate that, @Garen! I forgot to say in my original post that I've already evaluated the portable CarPlay units and decided they won't work for me for other not-very-relevant reasons. I'm looking for something I can install in place of the factory unit; that's a higher priority than how high up it sits.
Oh, that's a great form factor! Do you know if I can install something like this so that it replaces the *top* of the factory unit, with some sort of spacer or compartment on the bottom? That way it would get me several inches of extra height.
this is what you would use https://a.co/d/6J3Fe5d. also go here there is a lot of information about what you need. https://www.crutchfield.com/
You are welcome. Good luck. Post some pictures when your done with your project. it will be cool to see.
