I should do a search on this, forgive my laziness. Rear brake cylinders are weeping and Rock auto had closeouts for $3 a side. Shoes have 250K miles so new ones won't hurt either. Can I pressure bleed the rears without getting involved with the ABS pump?
On the rears all I do is when I undo the main line to the rear wheel cylinder on the rear of the backing plate I pulled the threaded piece out of the wheel cylinder pull the line back and I have a rubber cap that I drop over the flared brake line fitting that the threaded piece slides down and hits and squeezes when it's installed now no brake fluid but the drop or two that came out is coming I go over and do the other side now those lines are capped nothing is coming out except the two or three drips that came out when I pulled the thread loose and that's that when I reassemble I mount the new wheel cylinder then screw on the line crack the bleed screw and leave it sit there for 20 seconds and wait for the cylinder to fill up and drip to come out of the bleed screw then I close that do the other one now Mount the shoes the springs and The Business adjust my shoes and drop on the drum do the other side now the back is assembled I walk around to the front and look at my reservoir I'm not going to be able to see anything then I get in the car ready the vehicle and push the brakes a couple of times then move the car forward and backwards at this point I don't generally have to do anything else but to those that have to be in the know they'll take the relays out put their pedal holding tool on the brake pedal than the seat front and go back to the back of the car and crack the bleed screw which if your face is in the way the stuff's going to hit you right in the eye he won't hear any air squirting or anything close that roll over and do the other side the same thing will happen you've just proven to yourself what you needed to prove. Now you drive for another 250,000. I've never power bled anything on the Prius I have that snap-on power bleed thing since 1985 I've used it about nine times
