If you could go 100 miles downhill the engine will be off until the hybrid battery discharges which might not happen due to regen charging the battery. So the computer estimates 99.9 mpg because it has no idea how long you are going downhill. Mendel was talking about his 2010 Prius he bought new and has only put 60k miles in 15 garaged years. You are talking about buying a gen2 that may be 20 years old when you buy it. There is no warranty anywhere that will replace a 20 year old hybrid battery or the brake by wire brake booster system. Those items will cost $5k to $6k. If you had a nice Civic it would be much newer and have no hybrid parts to go wrong. But you want what you want even though you realize you can't afford a gen4 which seems to be what you want. Perhaps this is the bottom line. At least you are not pining for a gen3.
I don’t fit in the third gen. They’re horrific. Small. sorry. I’m just confused on what to do and I have serious concerns. I’m glad I got rid of my Bolt. But now I feel hosed.
True. Except advice being good or bad can in some cases be different for everyone. I have a family member see if he can help me. He’s my cousin half brother. So kind family. He is Sales Manager at a dealer. Do I can let him know I’m interested in a gen4 Prius and see if he can help with cost and finding me the right one etc. This is just an option I’m looking into. I am open though. I just have to fit in the car and some other stuff. But I do like the gen4 Prius a lot mostly.
I hope he can help you out. A hard lesson to learn is that we can’t always have what we want. I thought you might have learned something from the impulsive bolt purchase, and I’m still hoping you will make the right decision going forward. It’s only in your best interest
I did not make an impulse buy on the Bolt. 3rd gen Prius is WAY smaller for the driver. That stupid console is huge and your legs are right on it. There’s no room. 4th gen don’t have this problem. The center console is low and you can angle your leg better. I can. I sat in a Volt. It sucks too. Too small. Stupid console. A bit more room and it’d be awesome. It’s a nice car. Except for the center console.
A 2nd gen 2016-2019 Volt plug-in hybrid has more room, some ev range and Carplay. However they are priced like the 4th gen Prius.
Plugshare or Chargepoint will tell you about charging stations nearby. Maybe you already know this. People in apts have ev’s. I think many Bolts were retitled by GM when the batteries were replaced. Not the same as salvage, but don’t know what to call it. So maybe give the Bolt a chance and try to adapt to the charging stations. I see the same people every day charging for free at several in the area. Nothing is cheaper than free. You know switching cars is probably going to be expensive. You will never worry about cat theft with an EV. It’s the one thing I like least on my Gen 4. Since my daughters Gen 2 cat was taken, it became real. She has a Camry hybrid now, the front cat is part if the engine exhaust manifold. The seats are large and comfortable.
buggsy doesn't have a plug in the apartment complex, making even a phev pointless. he wants what he wants, even though he can't afford what he wants, or it doesn't make sense for his personal decision. i foresee another bad decision, and more complaints down the road
All early Bolt battery packs was recalled. That didn't result in the cars getting a salvage title. In fact, everyone who still owned them got a brand new upgraded battery pack that didn't catch fire while charging. GM repurchased a lot of them and replaced the battery packs with new ones from LG. That was a great time to buy them; if you were seriously looking for a cheap affordable EV, with a brand new battery pack. As I recall; all EVs was over $35K back then; but state and federal rebates was also available. To the best of my recollections.......
i'm sorry buggs, i didn't mean to criticize you or put you down. i was trying tough love. i'll bow out of the thread. all the best with your search.
