Have Greenworks "yard" tools. Sixty volts. A few years ago bought aftermarket 60 volt 5.0 Ah spare battery. Yesterday, loaded it in the mower and the mower sort of spun and then shutdown. Tried again. Same result. This spare is about three years old and has been no problem in the past. Pulled that battery and stuck in a different battery. Worked. Later, put problem battery in weed whacker. Worked. Is this signs of coming failure? Safe to use while it lasts? kris PS ARE THE REST OF YOU GETTING THESE ADS FEATURING LADIES UH..."showing off.".AT LEAST SHOW SOME OF MEN, ALSO. Equality you know.
I read "aftermarket," which means it's a crapshoot what you might get. Did the battery seem lighter than the original? That's usually the first clue.
Nope but then again my surfing history is about as interesting as an episode of Desperate Housewife - Amish Country. Once I hit a Temu ad by mistake and I started to get some pretty 'interesting' stuff - that frankly I wasn't very interested in. BUT(!!!) - as it turns out - the folks here at PC like money just as much as everyone else here does. I waited for a Harbor Freight, cellular provider, or eBay ad to pop-up - and I hit those every time they did for a while. No more ...... um......'suggestive' Temu ads.
Agreed, "aftermarket" is likely the problem. Too often it includes something better described as "counterfeit" or "junk." I have a few genuine greenworks batteries bought secondhand in 2017 that I still work hard. I can tell they're weaker than my newer ones, but I have yet to retire any of them. Never tried any of the aftermarkets. When lithium batteries do weird things... there is fire risk, sometimes hours after the weirdness. Outdoor storage recommended until final disposition is established.
I have a Greenworks 80 V battery with 'strange' behavior. The indicator lights are disconnected from its use in the mower or other yard tools. IMHO, the Greenworks 'battery management' system has problems. I'm going to continue to use my marginal battery until it stops and then safety turn it into the hazardous waste disposal center or Batteries Plus. Bob Wilson
Another early adopter pays the tax..... I actually like GreenWorks and I have two of their products - both corded. I'm surprised that their BMS isn't more robust - but not all lithium batteries are created equally. I just bought my second HF transceiver, and I will be using my first LifePO4 battery to power it during training......a hideously expensive two year old 6AH Bioenno battery that was about $90 then and even with tarriflation it's $79 today. This battery is rated for 4,000 cycles - so lithium IS the way forward. -you just have to PAY for it. Tomorrow you will have to pay a little LESS. The 30AH battery that my newer radio will require for field ops is also on order, and it would have been $279 from Bioenno. I'm gambling that an 'aftermarket' Eco-Worthy for less than half of that price - will be at least 'half as good.' They're not a bottom shelf battery and they are popular replacement batteries for people who need mobility scooters.
Now you have me questioning my choices in browsing with JavaScript turned off. Maybe I should enable it more often. Nah.
If the battery worked in the past, and still works in another tool, I'd suspect an issue with the contacts of the problem tool. Perhaps they have become looser between the battery and tool, or simply dirty. Got an adblock up for the rest.
