Source: ‘He gave us a sense of pride’: Rev Al Sharpton on Malcolm X’s 100th birthday | Malcolm X | The Guardian When African Americans protested against police brutality in New York, they were portrayed as rioters, Malcolm X told an audience at the London School of Economics. When shop windows were smashed in the Black community, he said, the press gave the impression that “hoodlums, vagrants, criminals” wanted to break in and steal merchandise. “But this is wrong,” Malcolm contended. “In America the Black community in which we live is not owned by us. The landlord is white. The merchant is white. In fact, the entire economy of the Black community in the states is controlled by someone who doesn’t even live there … And these are the people who suck the economic blood of our community.” Ten days later Malcolm was dead, slain by assassins at the age of 39 as he began a speech at the Audubon Ballroom in New York. His legacy, however, endures. On Monday, . . . the centenary of the Black nationalist’s birth. Bob Wilson
I wish we spent more time talking about this stuff... Sadly our society has too many people who are deeply scared and will be loyal to the pecking without thinking critically because they don't want to be lower in pecking order. But truth is we knew our history and could think critically and defended the need for equality we wouldn't even need a pecking order.
Malcom X - a person who professed hatred and violence and ended up dying as a result of hatred and violence. "And suddenly, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword, struck the servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear. Then Jesus said to him", “Put your sword in its place, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword.” (Matthew 26:51-52) Galatians 6:7 "Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap."
If you learned more about MalcomX you'd realize he had very little hatred and a great deal of intelligence and wisdom. But I get it... Some people would rather set aside critical thinking and forsake learning about all the world has to offer in favor of close minded-obedience and memorizing bible verses to justify why they will never question the morality of white supremacy and oppression in all its forms.
I like King's methods more....but then I didn't grow up in the rust belt in the 50's and 60's. "Critical thinking..." That's pretty rich. CRITICAL THINKING involves: "actively and thoughtfully analyzing information to arrive at well-reasoned conclusions, rather than passively accepting information at face value." Two things can be true at once. Mr. X (no relation to any of Elon's kids) is widely regarded as "an African American revolutionary, Muslim minister and human rights activist." He was also something of a segregationist, anti-zionist, and wasn't exactly down with the LGBT thing. Malcom was undoubtedly intelligent and he had megawatts of 'riz. I normally do not question how people 'faith'. HOWEVER!!!!! (comma!!!) I have questions..... The Southern Poverty Law Group have characterized the Nation of Islam as a black supremacist hate group that promotes racism towards non blacks, antisemitism and anti-LGBT rhetoric. To add to the mix - Malcom renounced the NOI movement and drifted into the Sunni faith - at least in name. Some primary sources and his speeches are still somewhat ANTI-SUNNI to my admittedly Protestant ear. I must admit to not having actually LISTENED to Malcom X's speeches - so something may have been lost there. If we've learned ANYTHING over the last week is it that there can be a vast gulf of understanding between a speech transcript and actually listening to the actual full recording!!!!! What got him across the circuit breakers with the NOI.......and shot, is still up for some debate - but my guess it was NOT Mr. X's Sunni Faith. MY mileage. Others will vary.
Regardless of which tactics you prefer, they were both seen as a threat to United States government and the role the US government played in ensuring both of them were assassinated is well documented.
Back when the signed the Magna Carta in 1215 things were pretty good for a while. But then all the kings forgot that we took away their power as kings and things got messed up again.

That's exactly what a Trump supporter told me once about J6. Same breed of cat IMHO..... Speaking of which: The one J6 fatality's family cashes in: Trump administration to pay $5 million to family of Jan. 6 rioter Ashli Babbitt - CBS News Not MY preference at all. I try to use 'tactics' as outlined in a fairly old instruction manual from my manufacturer. I'm as base as any other human, perhaps even more so than most - so my compliance is not always in keeping with those instructions. Example: I'm against the death penalty, but I'm NOT somebody you want on a jury if you're guilty of some of our capital crimes....
Why not include many other historical instances? What does skin color have to do with foolish human behavior? Bloody Monday in Louisville - American Catholic History "Election Day, August 6, 1855, is known as Bloody Monday in Louisville, Kentucky. The Know Nothings used violence to try to keep Catholics from voting, and the violence turned into riots. By the end of the day 22 were confirmed dead, though the number of dead was likely over 100" The same ethnic dance was enacted all over Europe which is why the Catholic immigrants were in the US. Ask the Jewish people about persecution or death - they may have some historical content to contribute also.
As a general rule of thumb, I consider murderers to be terrorists and not accuse their victims. But then I was in the Marines. Bob Wilson
It is pretty stunning how the parties realigned over the 20th century, isn't it? Two-party political system: a game of tug-of-war played by two teams, in a circular arena, in the dark. Flash the lights on every hundred years or so and compare which ways the teams are pulling. Weird, no question about it.
Outside the US nobody believes that either US political party is liberal, both have been moving right for decades. even PBS is considered center right leaning. Much of what US citizens believe is based on a false premise due to not having a basic civics understanding of the outside world or even events in their own country. The Dignity Index
Considering the 21st century is 2.5 decades old and the 'rest of the world' is moving right as well, I'd say that the 'dignity index' is only 'slightly' undignified when it comes to their own biases.
