I am a newbie Prius and got the dreaded Triangle of death and code P0a80. I downloaded Dr. Prius and checked the battery voltages from the app. It was obvious it was block 1 giving the main issue. Attached is the readings directly from the app. Do these voltages mean the blocks are good or are they over charging? I just got this car and since i got it the code has been present. The second module has blown and did not run any other diagnostics on the car. Can I replace modules one and two or do i just need to replace the whole battery? I sent 800 on the car and really don't have the money to just replace the battery without causing a huge strain on finances.
Before buying anything, you should do a battery reconditioning process. I do have the prolong battery deluxe combo, charger and discarger. I am currently doing this process at the moment (may 26, 2025) and I am having an issue with the discharger is showing .000 amps on the discharging cycle, I do not know what that could be? Maybe the discharger is broken, hopefully somebody reads this thread.
Open the discharger and check to see if the small fuse is still good. If I remember correctly, when the fuse blows, the discharger will show .000 amps on the meter.
Time for a Sodium battery! Playing wack a mole will only cost you money and time. Since you are having such issues, not worth it....
@valcun18 since you already have the battery out, modules 1 & 2 can be replaced without taking the entire pack apart. This would be the cheapest (at about $35 a piece) way to possibly get you up and running. Make sure you get it from a reputable source (check this forum for a list). I got mine from a random eBay dealer and 2 out of 5 were actually worst than my existing cells. Unfortunately, this is just a short term fix as more and modules would fail, and you would eventually need to replace the entire battery. That said, I replaced 3 modules in my 2010 and it’s still running with no errors 2 years later. Reconditioning your battery would also help make it last longer, but that can get pricey ($400 and up) unless you know how to make your own. I would start with replacing the 2 obviously bad cells. Worth a shot at about $70 and may get you a few months until your finances improve.
