So I finally got a Prius. Oh man.

It took the guy 2 to 3 days about to get financing. He told me the monthly I need and stuff. I was so glad. But to get insurance was a huge pain.

Geico has no humans anymore. WTFFFFFFFF?!?!?!?! They say on the robot on the phone that you can’t get quotes anymore on the phone. They have absolutely no option that will transfer you to a human. The bot says it wants info to get info to transfer you but it’s a lie.

The app didn’t work either. I had a policy. Closed it cus I had no car. Canceled it. The Geico app would not let me create a new policy. No option once I logged in. The contact us link gives a number where as I said there’s no human. So I clicked something about something like make new policy or so egging. It said I had to call them. The number was different I think. Not the same auto system. But again no one answered. It had me on hold. Just waiting and waiting.

So I ended up using the app like a new customer. I said same email as before and got a quote. I could not log in though after this cus I forgot my log in info. I was using Face ID but broke my phone screen and accidentally reset all settings on the phone. I wanted to reset the phone totally cus the screen is bad and cracked and the bottom where buttons are etc is covered by a big bar across the bottom of the screen. So I had lost Face ID. Eventually I figured out log in. So it shows my policy etc.

Before getting Geico to work I tried progressive. They wanted $340 a month for my new car. And that’s insane. I was so ricked. They said cus I was in an accident 3 years ago even tbough it wasn’t my fault. I’m being punished cus some other driver was stupid. So pissed. So I hung up.

That’s when I decided to try Geico as new customer. Anyway I figured it out. I knew the year, model and vin already from the sales guy. So I added myself and mom. Dealer had to have both mom and I same address to make it easier to get financing. So something to show both our names and address. Cost? Get this. $100 per month. So $600 for 6 months. Progressive is $340 per month. Holy crap man they’re insane. But Geico has no human to talk to. So hmm.

Ok. What did I get and how much? Well. I’ll say some. I got a 2020 Prius L Eco. Light blue. Great condition. Noticed after I got it that there’s a very tiny dent in one back door. No biggy. So,, 145k miles. Sucks. But here’s the thing. It has been totally properly maintained. The carfax is totally clean and good maintenance and oil changes, etc etc. The dealer gave me the carfax and a list of what they did to it. New wipers. New cabin air filter. Break stuff. Other stuff. All normal stuff. No repairs ever. No battery issue etc.

I love the car. I’m going to start saving for a battery for when the time comes to change some cells or whatever. I want to baby this car. Take good care of it. It’s really clean and so nice. Great sound for a basic model. CarPlay. Love the screen mostly. Basic but looks nice. Love the screens under the windshield. I have questions but read manual first before I ask. All manuals were in glove box. Clean and in good shape too.

on my way home from cousins at one point mpg was 107 mpg. This was a ways away so I had been driving a bit. But got home and it was 67.5 mpg. 33.9 miles or so. That’s really good. I was hoping for 40 plus. I went 50-55 mph roughly. Cruise. Which is weird.

    Great car. Love it.

Want to share 3 images but two says too big and one I think worked. Too big?

    Congrats on the car!
Go to THIS site and get the Warranty and Maintenance guide for your car:
Toyota Manuals and Warranties | Toyota Owners

Unless you can prove that some of the longer-period maintenance items have been done (coolant, [sic] transaxle fluid, plugs, etc....) presume that they have NOT been done.
If this car has been 'dealer maintained' then you may also presume that the oil has only been changed every 10,000 miles.
Change that to 5,000 and do NOT use the dealer for your maintenance!

If you really download and really read your warranty and maintenance guide you will soon find out why this is the case.

You do not disclose which US state you live in, which is fairly smart.
Consider your spare tire requirements versus where you live and whether or not you have roadside assistance.
I've been an AAA+ member for more than 30 years and I do not drive cars that do not have spare tires.
(and a jump pack plus cables, AND other items.....)
    MY mileage.
    YMMV.

READ a lot in this forum!

    Good Luck!!!

I hope. I just don’t have any money anymore lol. Expected after buying a car with cash for down payment. Monthly is tight but ok I think.

I don’t know why the car has no auto headlights. That’s dumb. And I gotta read the manual still. I want to change the cruise radar follow distance cus it’s too close. But can’t far as I know. Still need to read the manual.

Ok. The overhead light should be auto in the middle right? The switch. So at night it should come on when I open the door. It don’t. If I tap it it flickers. It comes on but goes off right away. If I push the switch to the left it’s off. To the right it comes and stays on. Does this make sense?

If it comes on in the on position, it should in the door position. I can’t see why you would need to tap it

Is the center position the auto position? It don’t come on when I open the door. It flickers if I tap it. Like a short or something. Shouldn’t it come on in the center position? As that’s auto?

Yes, and if it were a door switch problem, I don’t see why tapping the light would affect it.
Maybe the switch itself is not making solid contact in the center position

Ok. So there’s a problem the dealer needs to fix. I’m trying to get them to fix it. It should not be broken like this. The service dept maybe didn’t do good enough job I don’t know. But I can understand cus it’s not like the car is being worked on at night. So no one would notice.

Could this maybe be a fix I could do with a friend who’s good at this stuff? Is there anything to help tell me how to get access to the area I need?

you could start a thread with a good specific title. otherwise, you will probably have to access the service manual. i would think a good diy mech could handle it. maybe the switch just needs some contact cleaner if you're lucky

    Hey guys.
So tonight the overhead light worked. Hmm. Very glad.

Does going 50-55 on freeway help get better mpg instead of 60+ mph?

I like to set cruise for exact speed off freeway. Like 35 or whatever. I like cruise speed going up or down one mph at a time with each single press up or down on the knob.

Fan system set for Eco but no idea what that does. I still change temp and fan speed. It’s set front seat only.

I don’t understand how anyone can get say 70mpg. Unless there’s no traffic and you drive super easy and slow and lot of coasting and downhill. Freeways have lot of ups and downs and you’re doing 50 mph plus. I am looking at 55-59 mpg over 60 miles since I reset all trip meters after I got the car and drove a bit. I’m ok with that compared to my Ford 2013 Cmax Sel which was 40 mpg over thousands of miles. But then Ive only had the car couple days up to maybe 80 total miles I’m guessing.

On the screen that shows the odo. What is the car for? It has a small number next to it and then mpg to its right. But what’s the car mean? It’s under the speed. Instead of showing trip an and b one shows a car.

Are there any audio specs anywhere? Like what speakers? Their specs. The amp specs etc?

So far so good on the car. Love it mostly.

sorry! i know very little about gen 4. the most i can say about mpg is that the slower you go, the higher they be. that's just physics. i don't think anyone has ever tested and graphed speed vs mpg on most of the prius. maybe way back early gen 2.
you can get 70mpg or better driving around town with good technique.

70 MPG? They're not rated at that you'll be lucky to get 55.

best thing is to start a new thread with each specific question. helpful to search first to see if it has already been asked.
people aren't going to chime in on a title like this: 'update on car search: got one...'
