Appreciate your input — you're definitely on to something. I’m actually planning to do the opposite setup: I’ll be using the Corolla crankshaft and camshaft, but swapping over all the Prius timing components — crank gear, cam gear, timing wheel, and sensors — to keep the ECU happy.

What really tripped me up was realizing that the ECU doesn’t just care about sensor type — it’s all about the timing signal pattern, and that’s defined by the physical gears, not just the electronics. If the tooth spacing or gap location is off, the car either won’t start or will throw timing codes under load.

But the bigger question I keep asking myself is: how would someone know they’re dealing with mismatched internal timing just by looking at load data or a scan tool? There’s no clean warning — it’s not until something goes wrong that you even suspect it.

So yeah, this has definitely been one of those “learn it the hard way” moments — but I think we’re dialing in the right combo now.
