I cracked the black frame piece around the driver side mirror on my 2006 Prius about a decade ago; nothing serious. But recently, knocked it again - this time parts of it shattered. I looked up replacing it online, and it looks like the whole mirror assembly is about $35, but since the whole door panel needs to be taken off to replace it, it's not something I'm comfortable doing myself; and the dealer would probably charge about $150 (to replace a $35 part).

Is there any simple way to remove just the black rim -- I'd be fine with throwing away the $35 just for the rim; if it meant I didn't have to pay the $150 for labor.

    Any ideas?

Oh, I do have the pieces, so could glue them back in; but not my favorite option.

No door panel comes of for mirror just the tweeter you mean for the plug . Go to LKQ and look at a Prius with the door panel off look at the receptacle where it's pinned in the car right on metal . So now with panel on you'll notice w long needle nose pliers you could pull receptacle off metal pull it to you I believe they're just enough room to unplug re plug new without removing that panel . But I'm so used to pulling the panel off it'll take me longer to fish it . The whole panel need not remove just lift away enough to unplug . Not any kind of work really. Cheap mirrors can be noisy junkyard originals are best if possible . Same with Stanley headlights and tails.
