Replace Black Frame on Driver Side Mirror

No door panel comes of for mirror just the tweeter you mean for the plug . Go to LKQ and look at a Prius with the door panel off look at the receptacle where it's pinned in the car right on metal . So now with panel on you'll notice w long needle nose pliers you could pull receptacle off metal pull it to you I believe they're just enough room to unplug re plug new without removing that panel . But I'm so used to pulling the panel off it'll take me longer to fish it . The whole panel need not remove just lift away enough to unplug . Not any kind of work really. Cheap mirrors can be noisy junkyard originals are best if possible . Same with Stanley headlights and tails.

 

No, the easiest way is to remove the interior door panel, as you need to disconnect the wiring that feeds the mirror. You only need to remove a small portion of the waterproof membrane – just enough to allow you to disconnect the mirror cable – so take note of that.

I have done it twice, the first time to practice (on my own car) to find out what was involved and what tools I would need before going off-site and doing it for real. I think I did it for the first time in about two hours, going slowly and carefully. When I did it the second time, it was less than an hour.

If you consider yourself reasonably handy, you should be able to do it easily. It helps to have the manual excerpt, which I will attach.

By "black frame" or "rim" do you mean just the actual black carrier piece that the glass sits in?



(That one's from a gen 1, but I don't think they're much different.)

If that's all you need, why, that's just the way Toyota sells the mirror glass piece, already stuck in that frame. Pop, unclip, clip, pop, done.
