Does Toyota have an OEM rear bumper protector for the Gen 5 Prius?

    The kind I mean:

I made a pretty deep scuff on the top of the rear bumper where the edge is and I can tell that's going to be the first of many if I don't put some kind of guard. I was just putting in a duffel bag full of firewood and one of its plastic seams caught the bumper.

If not from Toyota, does anyone know of any decent aftermarket ones?

Toyota makes one. There are also some good quality generic ones on Amazon.

I checked autoparts.toyota.com and the closest thing seems to be a rear bumper applique that's transparent and doesn't even cover the edge in question.

Correct. That's the only one Toyota has. You'll have to try Amazon/AliExpress/etc. for something closer to what you're looking for.

I’m trying to resist, but it’s hard. Say fifty years ago, if you heard “bumper protector”, you’d be scratching your head. (n)

50 years ago, as many families didn't have dogs that got in and out of the hatch regularly, because everyone drove dumb sedans and didn't take their dogs everywhere. Probably. Who knows. It's a miracle we survived 50 years ago, lot of things were incredibly dumb back then.

You saw a whole lot more station wagons on the road that let you open up the back door to stuff kids and dogs in the back

Our ‘23 is definitely not as dog proof or even people proof as our 2009. Now, our half grown beagle has been barking after chipmunks that run under the car. Yesterday, he went ballistic and tore off the front right wheel well molding and pulled loose the strip in front of the hood, putting deep teeth marks deforming it before we noticed and got to him. Aaargh!
