The front license plate mount appears to be designed for Japanese license plates because it's 13" wide and so are Japanese plates. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a US license plate frame that is 13" wide, or figured out another way to hide the rectangle
Looking a picture of the Chevy Volt front license plate mount, it's the perfect size for US plates. Also this isn't about mounting holes at all.
Here's what I'm pointing out. The mount sticks out half an inch on each side Whereas in Japan, it has a flush look that's way better Size difference:
I couldn't stand the buck tooth front license plate bump. I made a 3 dimensional mold and then thermoformed a polypropylene plate the same thickness as the bumper cover to bond to the bumper cover after I cut off the front license plate buck tooth. Bye bye buck tooth! I also made an aluminum moulding to cover the wide gap in the rear hatch where all the wind noise comes from, it's now as quiet as my Lexus LS 500. I trashed the foam in the trunk and lowered the floor 6 inches. I covered the front end noise speaker with duct tape and muffled the sound. I added 2 horns, hi/low and got rid of the squeaky horn. Then painted the lower sill cover to match the wheel opening black which gives the impression of a narrower car shape. Then added the stainless steel window mouldings and lower chrome trim, tinted the windows and blacked out the rear window since I have the digital rear view window. All this was done when I had 42 miles on the odometer! Cheers Tom Z.
