I’m still waiting for prices to go down noticeably.
I watch used purchases over at bolt.org, and as far as I can tell, used cars of most all kinds are still expensive, despite many media claims.
When challenged, they can’t come up with proof

Because of "Likely," I take that with a grain of salt. But then I'm also biased for my EVs.

    I am fully committed:
    • Solar roof for EV and PHEV charging ... free miles.
    • Replaced Tesla battery, $9k, at 152,000 mi
      • Front end suspension "rebuilt" $3k at 152,000 mi
    • Added used, 2017 BMW i3-REx as backup to Tesla
      • 37 MPG at 70 mph on the highway, if needed
EVs have interesting characteristics and mine do not bore me. Along with Full Self Driving, I seldom manually drive my Tesla.

As far as bevs go, we are likely going to see a decline in sales for awhile.
    Same with renewables.
Meanwhile, other countries are outpacing us.
Not that it really matters, seems too late for climate change, and people will make personal decisions based mostly on finances.
The good news is, I suppose, is that hybrids continue to grow, and mpgs along with them.
Although, even those seem subject to politics, unfortunately

My wife saw a 2013 Nissan Leaf for sale for $2,000 that still had 8 bars left. She really wants it.

On the other hand, we're facing the probability of our rent increasing by quite a bit, which is the major reason I'm looking to cut back anywhere and everywhere we can, including our car ownership.

I once had to choose between my late wife and a Cherokee 140. I let the wife keep me 43 years. If we adjust for the months and days, 42 years, "The Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything."

according to post #4 - we are skeptical of what's likely.

Since we tried 3ev's & liked 2 of 'em prior to returning to phev' s - perhaps what's likely is skewed thu our personaexperience/needs.

Which is why Priuschat and other technical forums are so useful. We can sometimes see "lesson's learned" and avoid them ourselves.

Gosh, I'll be 79 in four years. <GRINS>

I suspect the Chinese followed by the Koreans and Japanese will have a lock on EV technology. No subsidies will be needed as designing a KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) EV should be cheaper than an equivalent weight and class ICE vehicle.

Maybe try working at an automotive Chinese assembly line and find out.

What, you going to complain about your $100 a week wages? That's what they often get. Try to unionize? Maybe you disappear?
Pretty easy to figure out. Then there's R&D. In many instances it's called theft. Gee, pay poor wages & steal lots of your development stuff & is it any wonder why their cars are cheaper?
