I was driving a mechanic (maybe a prius mechanic) home from the bar one night. He is from a group of people in my area that are especially cheap. About two thirds of the way home the car just quit I had to get it towed. I reset it later and that problem has not occured again. Is it possible he had some kind of device that sent out a signal that interfered with the car’s electrical system and shut my car down ?As I said he was of a group of ruthlessly cheap people and I would not be surprised if he did this to get out of paying the fare. (He walked the rest of the way home) I know this seems a little far fetched but I have my suspisions because this problem has not recured in in 1.5
years and these people will do almost anything to pay less

I can believe they're some kinda possibility of sending out signals to jam electronics . You'd have to be reasonably well versed in the cars systems.

It happened a year and a half ago......

If it makes you feel better, blame it on your should-be long-ago forgotten fare and get on with your life.
I'm not an automotive mechanic but I've been an electronics tech for 40 years and I'm not aware of any 'Vulcan nerve pinch' that you can perform from the back seat of a G3 Prius that would disable the car long enough for you to have to "reset the car" (whatever that means.)

If THAT is your biggest 'Uber Fare' story in the last year and a half????
    Count your blessings!!!

I mean there has to be a way to do it create a mini EMP or whatever it's called . We will get they're any min I'm sure . Just like weapons bullets seem archaic.

A "mini EMP" would probably have noticeable effects other than the car stopping until reset.

If they were a real Prius Mechanic they would of helped you with the diagnosis... So I'd say not only are they not a Prius Mechanic, but they also aren't sabotaging your car to get out of paying, that's an impossible thing to do if you're just sitting there. You'd have to put your hands in strange places in your vehicle to make that problem happen.

Yes it is a thing...the thing is science fiction.
Building a device that selectively stops a car, that works again after resetting and exhibits no damage later is a bit out there, perhaps where no one has gone before.
But also doesn't affect your phones?
And no one has leaked this device to be sold on line and no news reports?

I have seen badly designed power supplies shut down rf connections like the tpms sensors to the tpms ecu.

There are reports of a guy in Vancouver having his 2010 throw codes because of his obd2 Scanguage. He managed to get a lot of people to stop monitoring coolant temps and start cleaning egrs.

The chances of a rider having enough rf power with him to disrupt an ecu is very low. Just the battery needed would be large and heavy. Besides the fact the cheapskate mechanic carrying such a device could make good money selling his advanced rf ecu jammer. I am sure the guys throwing boulders from freeway overpasses would love such a stealth disrupter.
