It's come as quite a shock to me - in the face of how good of a car Toyota makes - how bad the owner's manual is. It seems to be primarily a flier full of warnings/precautions/admonishments and very little information.

(Additionally, they should probably hire a native English speaker to review and edit the thing)

Here's the thing: Because I read the manual, I was aware of Traffic Jam Assist. I was not aware that it seems to activate itself when it decides it's time to. Bit of a shock, that. Turning to the manual, I see that there are ways to deactivate it, a discussion of conditions necessary for it to activate/things that would preclude activation, but no real discussion on how to activate it. It appears you don't. It just does. Not like cruise control, that you have to activate to use.

    Is this a correct interpretation?

    The manual further instructs:
    Toyota Safety Sense 3.0
    ...

In the following situations, make sure to disable the system.
Failure to do so may lead to the system not operating properly, possibly leading to an accident resulting in death or serious injury.

    • When the vehicle is tilted due to being overloaded or having a flat tire
    • When driving at extremely high speeds
Etc, etc - Including automatic car washes!

Yet there seems to be no way to deactivate the system other than turning each and every subsystem off.

    Frustrating? You bet.

So: Any way to shut off Safety Sense without toggling through ALL the menus before I run it through an automatic car wash...and then turning them ALL back on after?

    Thanks!

I thought the #1 rule on PriusChat was: you aren't allowed to read the owner's manual?
