So we recently purchased a 2013 Prius V base model off marketplace with 218k that had a bad head gasket which i fixed (my 5th hg repair). It was a one owner fleet car used by a local company and had always been serviced through Toyota. Going though the records i found out about the paint customer support program, paint code 070, and contacted my local Toyota dealer. They told me there was only a week left on the program and sent me to a local body shop they use since they dont have a body shop at this dealer to have the work up done. The owner of the body shop went over the car with me and was taking pics (honestly the paint is not bad with just a few places missing). I asked the guy would they be able to fix some small dings on the car as a courtesy and he kept saying no I dont have to fix any of that just the paint but I will give you a cash price to do that work (they guy was a real dick in general). The front bumper cover is the worst part of the car and has a small crack at the bottom and so I asked if I purchased a new bumper cover primed would he spray it for me and I could install it later since I knew Toyota doesn't cover the plastic parts. He said I will spray the front and back bumper covers for 1k each but that will be out of pocket as well. Long story short the service manager from the dealership called me and said the paperwork was submitted in time and they had approved the paint job by this local shop. I asked him how much was the estimate and he said $10,554 but no worries Toyota would take care of the bill. I was floored. I plan to call the customer support number tomorrow and see if there is any way I can use this money towards the purchase of a new Toyota (we currently have 4 Toyotas) or some other option such as a 5k credit towards parts or service. While im thankful Toyota is taking care of the paint issue I just feel like the money would be better spent towards the other options vs painting a 200k mileage car and at the end of the day dont want to see this body shop guy get paid a penny. Any chance you think they would consider options other than painting the car since the money to paint the car is really going outside of Toyota?
i don't see why not, it would save them money. otoh, it is difficult for large corporations to go outside their standard policies
